I think you will find a cable operated clutch in your Metro. Is there free play at the top of the pedal travel? The clutch is easy to adjust, right on top just behind the radiator.

If these engines are taken care of they will last forever (almost). My 2000 metro has about 225,000 miles on it and the last compression test was
210 x 3, good as new.:thumbup:

Shortening the springs makes them stiffer. Think of the spring as a straight rod, shorter it is, harder it is to twist it to the same point.
