1 ton tires on a car? Am I nuts?

So I was digging around in my rim/tire stockpile and I found an interesting combo. I have a 2003 buick century, caddilac rims, and 1 ton truck tires. The truck tires fit the caddy rims and the caddy rims fit the century. The tires are about 4 inches taller, but the same width and a whole lot heavier. Getting going and slowing down would be off topic, but how would mileage do at cruise speeds? This would give me an overdrive of, well, something crazy, and a really stiff ride, but what do you think would happen? I have my own tire changer now, so it is easy to try. I just want to know if it is a totally stupid idea.

You don't have to mount 'em up to get an idea if they'd even fit in the wheelwells.

You could also measure diameter or circumference and calculate the new ratio.

If they fit in there, you KNOW I have to at least take it for a drive....:D

Poking up some common tire sizes, I'm guessing you're looking at about a 15% increase. If you had a w-body with a 3.8 I'd have a lot better feeling about this, but with the 3.1/3.4 I think you'll end up spending a lot of time in 3rd gear. If they even fit, but i think only going up a couple sizes will work out better anyway

.

What tire size came on the car originally or is on it now? 205/70R15 ?

What size are the truck tires?

Do the Caddy rims have the same back spacing as the Buick?

You may have issues when turning left or right. (rubbing of suspension parts and or wheel well)

Overinflated 1 ton capacity tires will make the ride atrocious.

You'd increase your drag, especially aero, which is why we do it with gearing. Plus it's not only if they fit while parked, it's also the dynamic fit.
