I'm surprised that the Honda CRX didn't make the list - especially since the article used a picture of one for an illustration!

And it's unfair to lump the manual and CVT Insights together...

i think thats what they are reffering to as the "1986-87 Honda Civic Coupe HF 5MT (42/51/46)" since the picture is a pre 88-91 crx.

Please do so! I am looking for more information on this car.

Years ago, I came across information on the Peugeot VERA+, its successor.

An excerpt from an article I've been working on:

In 1982 Peugeot also gave consumers a glimpse of its VERA and VERA+ concept cars. Unlike the ECO 2000, these cars used 50 horsepower turbo diesel engines[41]. The VERA+ had a 0.22 drag coefficient, 1,740 lbs curb weight, and achieved 55 mpg city, 87 mpg highway[42]. The VERA+ also had performance comparable to the commercially available cars of its time, with 0-60 mph acceleration in 13.2 seconds and a top speed of 100 mph[43].

jalopnik and top ten anyhting...

one would have to be in SoCal to respect it. ..like a CARB standard.

the champs here are no hondas at all. Not a single one.

the 3 main subes...those not only kicked butt... you can still see them welded into truck status and still running. the location and little sideways mounted 12 inch wheeled wonders are a no go.

and 1984.. there was even a miraculous gigantic LTD/grand marquis hitting 30 mpg with a carburator (as ford advertised..and it really did it)

Jalopnik is repulsive when it comes to thinking outside their own ghetto. This tiny mind is even with mods at some forums.

Don't trust top ten anything internet.
Someone could step up like a perfect king and insult the whole thing with deeper facts.

"1986-87 Honda Civic Coupe HF 5MT (42/51/46)" Refers to the CRX, aka Civic Coupe by insurance companies and many gov't registrations offices.

Hate to differ with a fan of the Subaru, but there are a couple hondas on the list. And the list is compiled by the EPA according to the article, not Jaloponik. Just trying to set the record straight :P

In the link there is two seperate lists provided by the EPA, one based on their rating numbers (what you see here), and one based on reported MPG from drivers, where there are several TDIs

Sorry for the late reply. I made an album of all the pictures in the Car Styling magazine :

Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com - cfg83's Album: 1981 Peugeot Vera

The magazine didn't number the mods, so the numbers I inserted are my best guess of the mods in relation to the bar graph. I couldn't find a mod that "matched" #7, so it's a mystery as far as I can tell.

I just noticed that this appears to be the source of the drawings :

G. Roussillon: Aerodynamic optimization of the Peugeot VERA-01. Impact of aerodynamics on vehicle design. Inder-science enterprises Ltd. UK.
