1000+ gallon club
I figured it might be fun to start a 1000+ gallon club.
So after 1530 days of owning my 92 Civic VX, it has consumed 1000 gallons of gas and driven me over 55,000 miles. I have only once gone below the new EPA combined avg. for this car and even that was still slightly above the city rating. 1992 Honda Civic VX Gas Mileage (WD-40's VX) - EcoModder.com I am wondering what the next 1000 gallons will yield me. Anyone else want to join or comment. |
I guess it's one of those things where you kinda wanna be a member (because it demonstrates experience), and sort of don't want to be a member of (because it demonstrates burning a lot of fuel).
Good or bad, I guess I'm in it with you (1,131 gal over 35,839 mi). |
Turn it on its head and answer the inverse question: How many gallons saved?
I saved 836 gallons in my now-retired Civic. Nearly 1000. Dave, you've saved 1340 gallons. |
That's kind of cool. I've had my Mazda for 6 years, and wish I had the data for all that time. Or not. I expect my lifetime average is pretty sad :/
|
I have all the data of all my motorized vehicles in my life, and I still haven't used 1000 gallons, let alone save that much :D I might be too young - or I began too late :D

Yeah, I used nearly 1800 gallons (saved over 400) in my Silverado before I got my Civic...
|
I've saved 1154.99 gallons over 101,330.19 miles
|
Used 1212, saved 717. For every gallon I burn, my car really ought to have burned 1.59.

Here's mine:

Oh, I like this one!
Lifetime Fuel Economy: 29.58 90-day Fuel Economy: 29.15 3-tank Fuel Economy: 29.37 EPA Rating (% over): 22 (32.5%) Total fills: 21 Average cost per gallon: $4.08 Average cost per fill: $37.74 Average cost per mile: $0.14 Total gallons used: 194.07 Total miles traveled: 5740.49 Total cost: $791.81 Total saved: 66.86 gallons I've been on here less than a year, so I'm still "young" - but that doesn't mean I'm not trying to save as much as possible. I think it would be neat to put together a list of the people with the highest Gallons Saved/Gallons Used ratio, obviously the higher the total number the better. Just to see who can break 1, and even get close to (if not over) 2! With the ridiculously efficient and effective hypermilers on here, I'd be surprised if there weren't a couple.... (and yes, I realize that this is basically the % over epa as already listed, I just think finding another way to show this would be fun) |

My lifetime is at 118.5%. I've had 90-day averages over 200% briefly (back when it was warm outside). Granted, I don't have an official EPA rating. I'm not aware of anyone whose legitamately done >200% EPA consistantly. |
In my 383 Formula S 1967 Barracuda, I used 100 gallons a week for 16 weeks before I sold that 10 MPG gas hog, but it sure was fun. 40 years ago.

Total fuel used = 713.53 gallons
Total fuel saved = 696 gallons With the gas engine, I was just starting to catch up on the saved side; 535 gallons used vs. 460 saved. Since putting in the diesel, I've been saving more than burning, as in; 178 gallons used vs. 235 saved. I'll be "over square" in a couple fills. Each thousand mark will be a bit longer:D. |

Lifetime Fuel Economy: 21.58 90-day Fuel Economy: 19.36 3-tank Fuel Economy: 17.92 EPA Rating (% over): 14.5 (33.5172%) Total fills: 85 Average cost per gallon: $3.16 Average cost per fill: $74.68 Average cost per mile: $0.15 Total gallons used: 2009.38 Total miles traveled: 43370.7 Total cost: $6349.64 Total saved: 981.7 gallons Total saved: $3102.17 Average tank distance: 510.24 Looks like I'm close to having saved 1k gls over the past 43k. Guess I should also update as it would probably push over. The EPA number is an estimate as this truck type is exempt. But it's based partly on an aftermarket survey where owners reported averaging 15-mpg all around (though most of those trucks were likely 4WD and auto trans). Another way of seeing this 1000-gls is that it looks as though I "might" average 1k gls per 21k miles. But the important figure to me is cpm . . and it really ought to be to others. FE is nice (as a game), but what it really shows me is that I am driving as easily as possible to get the longest life from the vehicle (as I do not push hard through corners, flyovers, etc; tire life is another indicator). Fuel might go up in price, might be harder to get . . but then, so will tires and batteries. Context ought to be the fuel rationing of WWII. Those last two items kept plenty of vehicles from being used to the extent of fuel that could be found. The pleasure of saving today is that tomorrow brings the unexpected. And driving for FE is a fine confidence-builder in that light. . |

The unexpected - we can't be really prepared for that, but this mind set might help in the times to come. |
