1965 Honda 50cc Super Cub
 

Picked this up today, nice condition for 50 years old.

That's nice. I don't remember to have ever seen a Cub from that vintage in my country, but most of its basic concept is still seen in the current plastic-bodied models available here...

Wow, looks like its in great shape. I have a similar bike, a 1965 Honda 65. Its my dads. He gave it to me and I'm currently in the process of getting a replacement title for it. He said he used to get over 100 mpg with it when he used it back in the 70s. It hasn't been run much since... and needs some work.

I've got two newer models, a C70 and a C50. Really love how they ride, especially the semi automatic gearbox. 100 MPG should be a walk in the park.

Identical to my first bike, a C55. I used to go away for very long rides and buy my petrol with cash back on Coke bottles. 5 returned bottles would just fill it. Good times .

Those 50 year old mechanical drum brakes are working just fine Frank.

Next hurdle is the carburetor. Got a wiring diagram on my desktop and it does not need a battery to run from what I have read. If I can get the ignition working and the carb decent I can always run it down my driveway to get it started. I did that already to get some oil around the motor, after a shot of WD 40 in the plug hole.

No frozen bolts or nuts. It still has the untouched (until me) tool kit under the left side cover.

I guess I could roll it down the driveway in gear and see if the lights work which would tell me the charging system is up to snuff LOL.

Carb was a non event. Slight amount of crud in the bottom of the float chamber, everything else spotless. Drained the tank and it is like new. Now I'm going to look at the wiring diagram and see if i can get some spark without a battery. Be nice to hear it run this weekeend.

The most amazing thing is the plastic parts and how well they have survived 50 years of age. Tires seem to be holding air, at least enough for a few miles test ride. It would be nice to get it operational without having to spend a dime.

Congratulations Old Mechanic, the condition is amazing considering the age. Has it been stored or used, and does it have the original pushrod motor ?.
I notice that the tiny direction indicators are missing, copies are still available in the UK, it would be nice to keep it original.
