Need some specs of front struts off of a early 90s GM

Looking for the dimensions of the front strut of any of these GM cars

BUICK
1983 - 1989 SKYHAWK
1985 - 1987 SOMERSET
1986 - 1991 SKYLARK

CADILLAC
1983 - 1988 CIMARRON

CHEVROLET
1987 - 1991 BERETTA
1987 - 1991 CORSICA
1983 - 1991 CAVALIER

OLDSMOBILE
1985 - 1987 CALAIS
1983 - 1988 FIRENZA
1988 - 1991 CUTLASS CALAIS

PONTIAC
1985 - 1991 GRAND AM
1985 - 1991 SUNBIRD
1983 - 1984 J2000

Mainly the diameter of the strut, the total length (compressed and uncompressed), diameter of the lower spring perch, the length of the arm that extends from the strut body to the tie rod (measured from the side of the strut) length of the spring used (uncompressed) distance between the mount bolts, both the bottom two and the top 3 studs.

Reason why I ask is that the strut off a Cavalier looks very very close to the front strut on the Insight. Since no one makes any aftermarket replacements for the Insight, I'm hoping that this could be a good "local" replacement of an otherwise dealer only part.

Thanks

is the strut for the insight made only for honda. It might be cross refferenced like you are looking for. You just need the manufacturer name and part # from them to get a cross reference. Worked for the injectors for my friends Delorean ( $36 at autozone (Each) compared to $85 each from vendors)

Can't help with the specs but I did find the OEM struts for $83 each. Seems like a good price for factory fit.

Thanks louisb323. I did know about the factory replacements but I'm looking for something cheap that I could mod without worrying. Icelander posted on my build thread about how to convert a regular strut to a coilover

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...&postcount=116

So I want to find something cheap and ideally a dime a dozen.

TheDon, far as I know its an Insight specific part. No one at all makes a replacement besides Honda. Everyone that I've asked said that there just isn't enough demand for them to produce the parts. If it was a normal strut this would be easy, but on the Insight the mount for the tie rod is cast into the strut

Ah, didn't realize you were going to mod them...just thought you wanted replacements. Looks like you've got your work cut out for you.

Well I need to replace them, figured why not upgrade while I'm at it?
