1995 Subaru Impreza coupe

I picked up this FWD Impreza coupe for $650 a couple of weeks ago, and I've only just started modifying it. The idea is it was already so ruined that I couldn't possibly make it worse, so ideally I'll eventually have a pretty aggressively streamlined car.

I went through a couple of tanks in stock form and averaged a little under 34MPG, which is already a pretty decent improvement over the rated 29MPG highway. I don't plan on doing ABA testing or anything that gets good data; the idea is just to make modifications that should improve economy and not worry too much about optimization.

Anyway, this thread is mostly just to document the process for myself, although maybe someone else with an Impreza might find some of it useful.

Subscribed. What's wrong with the car? From your one picture it doesn't look half bad!

Most of our cars look like this by the time they're 25 years old:

I haven't seen a 2-door Impreza for more than 10 years.

It has 250k miles on the clock, apparently didn't get its oil changed regularly, has mysterious tar in the trunk, hit a Vespa with a person on it (totally messing up the left fender), has a damaged crash bumper, is missing a lot of the clear coat and paint in several places, has suspension wear, and god knows what else.

I also didn't check the tags and had to pay an extra $265 or so to get it registered. In summary, I'm pretty sure $650 was more than this thing was worth.

Not entirely unlike my old beater Echo. Free for the cost of getting married and having two kids LOL, it departed the road last year with 273k on it. Had a busted radiator, which is a medium pain in the ass to fix, and not worth it. It would be a long post to list the problems with this car, so suffice it to say it had mold on the carpets, if that's any indication how completely abused this thing was. It held up great despite all of that.

That generation Impreza was on my short list for first car. Of course, I wanted a 2.5RS and that wasn't really happening.

I forgot to ask: is its engine 1.8 or 2.0? The only 2WD Imprezas I've seen were 1.8

I like this car.
My dad had a station fwd 1.6 for a few years, but I was too young to drive it.
Post some pics please and keep us updated.
I am interested
