1999 chevy tracker / ultragauge questions

I just ordered an UG for my tracker, a 99 4wd 2L.

I read though the manual, and it talks about tweaking and recalibrating and a bunch of other stuff to I prove its MPG accuracy.

So is this thing plug n play or plug and fiddle with it for weeks until it reads correctly?
For a 99 Chevy tracker w/a 2L engine.

Seems like its simple plug in play but the manual made my ears bleed.

It's plug and fiddle.

Plug is in, fill your tank, drive around for a 100 miles or so, refuel and you'll have basic calibration.

OK this doesn't look to complicated....
Now it says to calibrate the distance meter with a straight highway and mile markers, and that's easy. I would like to know why you have to do this or if you have to do this if you qaree using the stock tire size, is the cars spedo odo not precise enough or is this step to compensate for oversized tires?

I set it up and it wasn't too painful.
Its average mpg read compared to my pen and paper math a the pump only were different by one mpg.

Further calibration of the distance and mpg should get it tuned in perfect.
I'm pretty impressed so far.... Very nice little tool!
