2-Mode Hybrids in the Snow

I don't just mean GM's Two-Mode, but any strong/full hybrid.

I was driving today and aside from terrible gas mileage (13MPG on the computer when I got home six miles later--new tank) I noticed something else.

The readout which shows energy flow below the speedometer was getting jittery. Normally, the power-flow arrows are steady moving dashed lines. Today, they were alternating between dashed and near-solid.

What gives? Some kind of traction thing? (Poorly plowed roads, for the win!)

LCD's don't like cold. All cars lose mileage in slushy snow.
