2000 Dodge Neon aero mods
 

Hey, I've been lurking here for quite a while now, signed up a little bit ago and figured I may as well post some pics of my car, and hopefully get some feedback from you guys.

The car is a 2000 Dodge Neon, it has a 2.0 litre, 3 speed automatic transmission, and just over 200 000 kms on it.

So far, in terms of aero mods, I have a 4" air dam under the front bumper (same height as lowest suspension components), recently added tire spats in front of front wheels. I have blocked off almost the entire lower grill. I have a partial belly pan under the back of the car under the muffler, and I will be completing the rest of the car very shortly. Just in the last few days I have also added partial wheel skirts on all 4 wheels, and also just made some smooth wheel covers.

I may as well say that I am from Canada, I am in southern Ontario, about an hour west of Toronto, so the car does see quite a bit of snow and some pretty cold temps, which definitely hurt my fuel economy. I have just started playing around with a warm air intake and playing with my IAT sensor. I don't have a scangauge or anything, and am only going off of tank-to-tank fill ups to go by, so no real numbers from those yet.

I just finished my smooth wheel covers today, and only did the partial wheel skirts a few days ago, so I really don't have any numbers out of those yet either. Although the majority of driving that I do is on the highway, so I decided that going with aero mods would be particularly benficial.

Let me know what you guys think, and if you have any suggestions. Next on the list will be a rocker extension between the front and rear wheels, flared out as a tire spat at the back. Along with completion of the belly pan.

Do you have any pre-post mod mpg numbers?

I have a whole pile of mpg numbers, but nothing from the wheel covers or partial skirts yet. My mileage started out around 28 mpg, driving technique took me to about 33-4. A lot of my mods have gone on sort of overlapping so it is difficult to tell exactly what mod is giving which improvement though. My last few tanks have ranged from 35.6 to 38.3. I do a lot of highway driving, but there is a varied mix of city driving in there as well.Hopefully these new mods will show some gains.

I should also mention I have done more than just aero mods, I have also removed my power steering and AC, and have a warm air intake and relocated IAT sensor that I am playing around with as well. Tires are at 44 psi as well.

Quite a few mod already. :thumbup: Don't forget the biggie driving style change, referred to around here as adjusting the nut behind the wheel, check out the 100+ hypermiling tips. If in the budget the Scan gauge or Ultra gauge are worth the money. They will pay for themselves in a short period of time the more miles you drive the quicker the payoff.

Looks great. The wheel skirts and wheel covers make the wheels actually appear bigger.
