2000 INSIGHT - manual odo 162k - $2850 --sold.

- SOLD - 2000 Honda Insight, 5 speed manual, silver, 162,000 miles, VIN: jhmze137xyt000801.

I havn't driven it since November.

$2850.

Bought a TDI Beetle, so the Insight is going. 1/23/1015

From November:
I rarely drive it, once every two months, not enough to keep the battery charged. I cycle to work and back. AMA light was on, but need to charge and drive it. i Got a grid charger last month. It passed emission testing a few weeks ago. Battery was replaced by Honda at around 100k. Clutch was replaced last year, but the guy didn't do a good job and it chatters now. Both drive shafts replaced. Tires are good except the rear left has a flat spot, My wife left the parking brake on and it froze, I tried to drive it and it skidded down the drive way.. Has a small crack in the windshield behind the rear view mirror, not noticeable. (too aggressive in removing a foot of snow last winter). EGR passages need to be cleaned out. I have a belly pan for it, not currently mounted. I had it on Cregs list but got too many crazies replying. It has only let me down twice, once the front axle snapped in the hospital parking lot driving my wife home from surgery and two, my wife was driving son home from college and in the middle of nowhere and everything went dead on the interstate, battery was dead and all it needed was a jump start and was fine after that. Ground wires have been replaced. All in all its a small fragile car and parts are hard to find, the AMA is another maintenance item, it does get amazing gas mileage though. It handles like a go cart, fine on the freeway, but no cruse control. A little weak if there is a strong head wind going up a viaduct. More drivers tend to cut and turn in front of the small car. If I drive it, I have the headlights on. I am not bent on selling it, don't want to go through the hassles of showing it, but it's just sitting in the driveway.

The belly pan is currently off the car.:

No fuel log or any updates for a long time on its page:(

arcosine 11-17-2014 08:14 PM

This has to be some kind of scam, who in there right mind would by a two seat insight when they are adopting a child.

Quote:

would like to make an offer on your 2000 Honda Insight.

My wife and I are looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, and the Honda Insight is the best one. We are in the process of adopting (Dan & Agniya Are Adopting! - Home) and have been matched with a birth mom in Colorado, so we will be making several trips between Springfield, MO and Denver, CO between now and July. And I know that I will need to make a couple trips down to FL because my Dad’s health is starting to go, and I know of at least one trip to TX that I will need to do.

So with all our extra income going toward our adoption expenses, I am able to offer you $1433 for your used Insight, subject to an inspection at a local garage. It is not a low-ball offer, but rather what I am able to afford. I would be able to come up to Lemont next week Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov 18/19) to inspect and pick it up.

To give you more understanding on my offer, I have budgeted $2000 for a used Insight, to include any inspections, getting the car registered in MO, fuel expenses to pick up the car and a reserve to cover any minor repairs that may be needed. If you vehicle is in good condition, as you say in your post, then there should be little to no repairs needed. I would be happy to send you a check, after the car is registered and any repairs made, for any remaining balance from my budget.

FYI, here are the expenses that I am accounting for:

$ 50 Local inspection, to confirm purchase

$ 12 MO state inspection

$109 MO registration

$196 Gas up and down for my car and return trip for the Insight (495 miles to your location)

$200 Reserve for minor repairs (if none are needed, some or all of this amount can go back to you)

How are the tires?

How is the windshield?

Is the IMA battery pack fully charging?

Is there any rust issues?

Anything that may need repair?

Do you have any more photos, such as a walk around form different angles, the inside, under the hood, engine and back hatch, tire detail…

Thank you so much for considering my offer and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Super weird. I doubt its a scam but I'll bet you its a car flipper or something. Or it may be legit. Its very specific...

No, as a matter of fact, hell no. There are so, so many red flags in that post it's not even funny. Not to mention your car is worth more then that.

Xist 11-18-2014 01:59 PM

Testing the waters? :)

That e-mail is bizarre, yes, extremely specific. Sometimes people use the truth to hide a lie.

cowmeat 11-18-2014 03:19 PM

*fixed*

My wife and I are looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, and the *your car here* is the best one. We are in the process of *scamming*(Dan & Agniya Are *scamming*! - Home) and have been matched with a *potential sucker on Craigslist*, so we will be making several trips between Springfield, MO and Denver, CO between now and July. And I know that I will need to make a couple trips down to FL because my *fictitious* Dad’s health is starting to go, and I know of at least one trip to TX that I will need to do.
So with all our extra income going toward our *scamming* expenses, I am able to offer you $*lowball offer* for your used *your car here*, subject to an inspection at a local garage. It is not a low-ball offer, but rather what I am able to *reasonably scam*. I would be able to come up to *your town here* next week Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov 18/19) to inspect and *steal it*.
To give you more understanding on my offer, I have budgeted $*lowball budget* for a used *your car here*, to include any inspections, getting the car registered in MO, fuel expenses to pick up the car and a reserve to cover any minor repairs that may be needed. If you vehicle is in good condition, as you say in your post, then there should be little to no repairs needed. I would be happy to send you a check *from my account at the National Bank of Nigeria*, after the car is registered and any repairs made, for any remaining balance from my budget.

Actually when I was selling my Toyota all-trak wagon I had some one say he was going to ship it to Africa and wanted to buy it without seeing it,just over the phone.

Did he want to pay through Western Union?

Actually, I have never heard of scams involving money coming in...

OBD1Kenobi 11-20-2014 08:38 PM

Definitely a scam. I had a similar thing happen when I was selling a toolbox for $400 on CL. The guy said he traveled a lot and would send me a check with $20 extra (inconvenience fee because I wanted cash only). Said he would mail the check and pick up the box after a few days. I told him to show up with cash and meet me somewhere (other than my home) to make the exchange. He still insisted on a check because he said his bank was in Florida where his home was but he traveled around for work. I asked him if he ever heard of an ATM? and told him to show up with cash or don't show up at all! To my "amazement", that was the last I heard of him.
So yes, I would say that is definitely a scam. Probably a cut and paste scam right off of the internet.

Lots of scams like that, you get something that looks real but isn't and you don't find out until the thing is shipped.

I lost a check book just over a year ago and when I told my bank (one of the largest in the country), they told me to report any unauthorized checks.

That is it?

Several years ago, I lost a check book and checked my balance at least every day. Someone deposited into my account and started writing checks to cash! I know that you can print checks with your home computer, but I really wanted to know who authorized their deposit, they looked obviously fake to me!

They dropped her charges related to my account in some plea bargain. As I recall, that was more entertaining than anything else. Strangely, I still remember her name.

I started typing "my name."

Time to go to bed! :)

I use Craigslist as the ultimate tool rental site. Many times I will need a large tool for a side job that I may never need again, so I buy a nice used one from Craigslist (after I haggle their price down, of course), use the tool for the project, clean it up and then re-list it for the same price they had listed it for. I haven't paid to rent a tool in years, and most tools I end up making money to use. Example: I bought a rear-tine 20" rototiller for 75 bucks (they were asking 200 bucks) that needed the starter clutch replaced. The guy even had the clutch, and threw it in the deal. I fixed it, and it fired right up. I tilled my garden and my daughter's, cleaned the tiller up and re-sold it for 180 bucks.

So it's a site you can use to your advantage, but you can get scammed really easily, too . . . .

Here are some Craigslist red flags that immediately make me pass on an ad:

General (including cars):
No pic in ad (I filter for pics only)
They're selling the item for somebody else: friend, neighbor, parent, etc . . .
There is a hard-luck story involved in the description

Car specific:
Only three sides of the car shown in pics (fourth side will be bashed in)
Dark or blurry pics, or stock photos
Seller doesn't have the actual title in hand, but is willing to go get it
The amount they're asking ends in an odd number
The contact is an email address and is "somebody's name@gmail"
The seller is shipping out overseas and must sell soon
Seller doesn't live in the area, but will meet you
The area code listed in their contact number is unrecognizable
There are "key words" at the bottom of the ad
Title area says "rebuilt" or is blank
Vague location, and car is listed in multiple areas

Most of all, If I think "wait, what?" at any point while reading the ad, I pass it up

Happy hunting!

When I deployed, there was a storage lot for our vehicles. I do not know anything about it, I did not have a car in Germany, just that it was free. I did many things in preparation for deployment, but it was not like I needed to pay for the flight. The biggest thing that I remember purchasing was a year's supply of deodorant. It turns out that I did not have any idea how long that stuff lasts me, I think that I actually purchased a decade's supply!

Hmm I would consider this in about 7 months when I pay the Cruze off. I would love to lower my transportation costs, even though I'm gonna get F'ed on depreciation. How's the interior? Pictures?

How many years/miles have you owned it for?

I'll point that guy who's looking for a car to this thread.

What do you mean it is fragile? I am interested in buying and I obviously trust you from this forum.

Are you saying you don't charge the batterY?

I am not very mechanical, do you think I should be purchasing this?

Why is there a flat spot?

The front axel snapping sounds serious?

I am a serious buyer. Thank you for your help.

vrmouseyd15b 01-24-2015 04:27 PM

Lol! Please send me your bank information for I can make quickly a deposit of large sum in this vehicle. My associate will pick it up and arrange transport to Nigeria. ..

Thanks,
Victor
