2001 ALH (VW 1.9TDi) Tuning using VAGECDSuite?

My £2000 ($300) Octavia comes equipped with the ability to upload revisions to the map in the ECU of the car.

This is the first car I have owned that has had such a function.

Freeware software is available online that allows you to alter the values that map the following criteria:

Driver's Wish (this controls the max fueling at given throttle pedal input %)

Boost Target (Maps the requested boost level from the turbo for a given RPM/Fuel volume)
http://thumbsnap.com/s/edA4k0Yk.png

Smoke Limiter (Controls volume of fuel based on air volume and RPM)
http://thumbsnap.com/s/k1EOfcZb.png

Torque Limiter (Sets fuel volume limits based on RPM)

In essence then, I have the ability to raise /lower fueling levels and boost levels on a fairly granular basis.

The output is available via the "View performance" function:

I'm wondering whether it would be possible to alter the fueling and boost settings to maximise economy?

Initial thoughts would be around improving the torque in the lower revrange and a leaning off of fueling at cruise RPM (circa 2000-2500rpm).

I'd appreciate your thoughts on what (if anything) could be achieved!

Thanks

is there a way to lower consumption at cruise speed and increase fuel under load?(IE, cruising at 60, rpm 2200, ascending an overpass/hill, increase rpm)
how are you getting this to the ECU? vag-com cable?

this vag edc suite works great for edc15+ version cars ecus 1999-2005 diesel cars at least.

You can and you should:
- Optimize egr at the moment I have fully turned it off
- Optimize pedal response the drivers wish make it slower for eco driving
- Optimize boost for each RPM levels (correct AFR for best efficiency)
- Optimize your IQ advance for each RPM levels and each IQ levels
- You can make more power without affecting the engine efficiency
- You can make constant IQ program for testing different aero or mechanical changes.
- Make custom launch control and different kind of rev limiters

- Mechanically tune best engine CAM timing aka torsion value for best efficiency

I have done in my cars propably closer to 5000km pure ECU program road testing trying to find most efficient setups for my diesels. If you have a car that have this ecu and own a flashing cable I am able to offer you a custom program.

My current AFR setup is 14.6% better than stock. I got it 4,2% better by optimizing quicly better boost levels for each RPM points. Propably still little room to improve there, but quite nice boost with little effort.

So, what would it take to go from just a scangage to doing the above to an 04 golf with BEW? and exactly how big an elephant am i asking to eat?

First learning to use that vag edc suite about one week. Basics you learn in one day.

Then learn how and which direction to change values 1-5 weeks depending what you want to do.

Tests those different setups on road 1-5 weeks
Thats about what I have spent time plus you search all the time new ways to improve your setup.

Any control of injection timing?

Vekke 06-29-2021 06:38 AM

Full control to whatever IQ timing you want and find to work best.
