2001 Insight, 117k mi, $1400

Found this on Craigslist not too far away:

2001 Honda Insight (hybrid) for sale!

2001 Honda insight for sale. Low Mileage $1400

This is a first generation 2 seater hybrid insight from Honda with 4 brand new tires and two extra snows. An awesome car. 117,000 (approximate) miles. Car runs but needs some work. Manual transmission. The timing is off which is causing the engine to run rough. The hybrid battery cell is no longer charging. The car is missing the driver side fender skirt as you can see in the photos but the body is in good condition. Purchased this car in Santa Fe New Mexico in 2004 and it has seen very little winter driving as I have had a home office most of this time. This car is a lot of fun and well worth the effort of fixing but I've got 4 kids in car seats or boosters so it's not practical for me! Not currently inspected.

I'm willing to bet there's no timing issue, considering it has a chain and the coils are on the plugs. I'd probably first look to see if the spark plugs have backed out, or if the cat is starting to clog up.

Go for it, man! I know you wanna

There is a definite possibility there is a timing issue. It's common for the CPS that goes along the back of the motor to get melted/damaged, causing the engine to go completely out of wack.

Doesn't look like it would be too difficult to replace, and RockAuto claims to have a part that fits for $28.

:turtle:

I can't buy it right now, but I'm sorely tempted.
