Picked this up at a local salvage auction last Thursday.

20 k miles, original window sticker price was $30k.

Winning bid was $5500, less than the cost of the options above the base price of the car when sold new.

$4000 in parts and $2500 in labor to fix it. Original insurance company estimate was $14k.

No interior damage, runs and drives, no mislaignment of suspension, no airbags deployed.
Only warning light on in dash is for lights not working in rear and front.

:) even has 15 gallons of gas in the tank.

That's all great news. That's a candidate for a much cheaper, easier repair than any low-miles Insight I've seen at auction.

If radiators are sized proportionate to horsepower, it looks like you've got about five times as much as the Insight, eh?

Not sure how tall the Altima radiator is Robert but my guess would be the difference in size was proportionate to the HP, 70 versus 175. They are both singlerow cores for larger frontal area.

I know when I was running it I never heard the auxialiary cooling fans come on, unless I turned on the AC. I noticed that on my 96 Riviera as well, but that radiator was angled at close to 45 degrees.

Its the exact same powertrain module as the wifes Rogue. At 55 average speed the Rogue will do 35 MPG, so the Altima should get around 40. RPM at 60 MPH in the Rogue is 1900. I wonder if the Altima is even higher due to lower total drag.

Over the last 35 years I have rebuilt about 175 cars, first was a 66 Chevy van in 1973. The VX is a rebuild. I used to do Altimas in the 90s almost exclusively 93-97 models.

It usually took $7500 to build one in the 90s about half what they cost new.
