2011 MPG totals and 2012 goals (what are your planned mods & MPG targets?)

My goal for 2011 was a year total average of 49 mpg with a stretch goal of 52 mpg.

Well this year I averaged 51.98 mpg so I consider it a complete success.

For 2012 I'm going to kick it up another notch and set a goal of 54 mpg with a stretch of 56 mpg.

Here is my post from last year on this.

So, how did everyone else do in 2011 and what goals do you have for 2012?

Admin edit (MetroMPG) FYI: here's the thread of last year's goals:

Might be worth checking out to remind ourselves what we said we were going to do last year :D (I never learn my lesson)

This looks like fun. My average since late August when I bought my Fiesta stands at 44.42mpg during roughly 13,000 mile of driving. I have had two 50mpg tanks and several over 48.

My goals will be to improve by 10% for the year which will be 48.86mpg, have at least one tank at 60 mpg, and to acquire a fuel efficient motorcycle.

The start of the year will of course be rough with all the winter driving I'm going to be doing.

In 2011 my car managed 5 consecutive tanks at over 60mpg in the summer, due to LOG ing. my winter norms went from 42mpg to 48mpg.
For 2012 my objective for my car is to get a tank at 70mpg with a longer string of tanks at over 60mpg, and finaly get to over 50mpg lifetime average.
For my motorcycle in 2012 the objective is to meet the Vetter Challenge and get 100mpg under Vetter conditions with my Honda VT500 shaft drive motocycle.

For 2011 I drove 26460 km [16445 miles] in my 2007 Yaris
My life time average is 4.9 L/100km [47.75 mpg] for the Yaris
Est fuel used 264 x 4.9 = 1293.6 L [342.2 gal] for the Yaris

I averaged 38.8mpg for the year with a high 90 day average just shy of 40mpg. My best tank of the year was 42.2mpg, which far exceeds anything I ever thought possible before joining ecomodders. Eighteen months ago I was content with 26-27mpg during the winter, 29-30mpg during the summer and absolutely thrilled on the rare occasions I managed something like 31-33mpg.

I've settled into a comfort zone with the 37-38 winter, 39-41 summer pattern and while I might occasionally have a little fun and shoot for a high tank, mostly I've just incorporated hypermiling into my lifestyle and managed to save over 200 gallons (compared to my previous mileage, not the EPA) in the process. I won't be joining the 50mpg club anytime soon unless fate intervenes and forces me to replace my car before its time.

I currently have about 145k miles on the Acura and drive about 20k miles a year. I'd like to get another two or three years of reliable service out of it before poking around the used car market for a 2010-2011 Focus, Fiesta, Elantra, or some other 50mpg+ capable car. I have a coworker who just picked up a 2011 Elantra in October and she doesn't even care about mpg and she's managing 36-40mpg with an automatic and no technique whatsoever. Ultimately my goal is a sub-one gallon of fuel for every 56 mile round-trip to work, but that involves about 11 miles of EOC along the way. On my best days right now I'm just under 1.4 gallons with a 200hp monster under the hood. Give me a little fuel sipping 1.5 to 1.8L engine and it should be a breeze.

well i did what i wanted to break 55mpg for a 90day and i ended up at 59.45 for 90 days. So for 2012 I will be looking for 65mpg for 90 days. and would like to see 70mpg for a single tank.

Excellent work by all the posters for 2011! Well done !
For 2012 I hope to maintain my lifetime 28+mpg average for my Jaguar with more 30 MPG tankfills while filling it up about once a month ( I had only 14 tankfills for 2011). I hope to get a 70+ mpg tankfill for my Yamaha Vision 550 and raise its average FE into the 60 mpg range. I hope to get a 100 mpg tankfill in the 2012 Vetter Challenges with my "new" Ninja 250.
Happy New Year & best wishes, L&S

Aiming for a kilo-tank in 2012.

I might pull a "Kramer" (Seinfeld reference) and drive the car until it runs dry. :D

Nice thread!

I'm stil in the First year with the iS- It runs til Feb before i've had it a year..

plans for 2012:

318is- Aims- 45mpg (imp) for 3 tank average, 50mpg Motoryway mileage

Active Eco-modding with particular attention to Aero (car sees approx 75% Motorway/fast A road)

Grill block
Undertray
m3 Mirrors (smaller frontal area)
Rear spoiler removal

Possible Cam Re-Timing for lower torque band
Warm Air Intake
Electric fan

Some Weight reduction (inc Driver!)
Possible Lowering

320i

This is my baby, so it'll hopefully be getting a "sympatheic" restoration and some ecomodding to make it more frugal to run in a spirited manner mods to be decided but aiming for consistant 40mpg (imp)

535i

This is the track car, so MPG is not really the goal (apart from driving to/from tracks!)

Still aiming for matching it's published combined MPG by hypermiling off track-Looking for around 25mpg (imp)

it'll be more weight reduction/shorter diff/lowering (on adjustible coilovers)/better brakes etc..

Aero may be looked at-

Front splitter
Undertray

for better grip on track

me for 2012 i aim for the 2 kinds of kilo tanks :) and when my friend hypermileQC will have is car i will ALLWAYS have beter mileage than him :)

SentraSE-R 01-03-2012 12:39 AM

I averaged 51.58 mpg with my xB in 2011, and had 1000 km tanks (with an 11.9 gal. tank) twice. That's slightly better than my 50.5 mpg average in 2010, but I drove more than twice as many miles in 2011.

For 2012, I'd like to bring my lifetime average in the xB over 50 mpg. It stands at 49.4 mpg now.
