2020 Civic engine into a 1993 Civic ?
Just wasting time, and was wondering what benefits ( if any ) you could get by swapping a 2020 Civic engine into a 1993 Civic.
>I would imagine the engine produces less pollution. ( ding ! ) > Since the old car is 400 lbs lighter, it would get better fuel economy. It looks like thr 2020 Civic gets 42 highway. That is the same as what I got stock in the 1993, but the old car is lighter. Oh and the thing I could care less about - power. POWAHHH BWAHHHHHHHH. The engine in the '93 is running fine. I'm just daydreaming like always. I would imagine swapping in the new engine would be a nightmare with all the under dash wiring changes. And since I'm asking, how about a hybrid swap ? How hard would that be, and whst benefits would you see from that ? |
Sounds a K20 swap. I don't know if you would see much of a fuel economy gain. The necessary transmission swap would mean much shorter gearing. But you could definitely see 155 HP from a K20 (stock), which is maybe 60 more than your car had in 1993. But an L15 engine out of a recent Honda Fit would be 130 HP and prolly much more eco-friendly. Cheaper too (at least for the engine).

My first thought is, will it fit? The civic has gotten bigger since your car. Does that include the size of the drivetrain?

I just assumed it was the same size block. |

Even though a K swap is doable, the smaller engine out of a Fit would be more suitable if you were mostly looking for a practical option for a modern replacement engine without any high-performance goals.
