236 straight green lights in NYC
Not really sure what forum this belongs in, but this Uber driver drove through 236 consecutive green lights before hitting a red. He claims he has learned all the patterns.

Full, uncut video. From his dash clock it looks like this was around 3:30-4:00am. But still... |
Learning your local lights makes a HUGE difference. It's the difference between gliding through a green light or coming to a complete stop. I've learned my daily route's lights and their patters. Learning who gets to go in what order lets you know if you need to speed up to catch the light, or coast to it because there is no chance of getting through in time.
But that is an insane number of lights to get through in one shot! I live in the middle of nowhere and there is only 6 lights on my route. They change so fast sometimes and out of nowhere. Really wish we had pedestrian walking light countdowns on at all times, really helps to know how much time is left on a light! It's funny, whenever I'm with somebody and we're in a city that has those, I'll usually tell the person driving if it's going to turn red on them. Almost always, they say "How'd you do that?!" :) |
I used to be able to time lights when they operated strictly by a timer. I can't anymore because of the advent of computer-controlled lights whose timing cycles depend on whenever a car arrives at the light in the crossing direction. How could you time that?
