6214 miles, and 23 weeks later.. 37.7 UKMPG 31.4 US:)

I bought my Scab 9-3 on a whim...

Headlines are

EU combined MPG rated at 31.7

Actual 37.7

US rating 26

Actual 31.4

Car purchase/ Servicing
This car cost £530($830),
6 months tax was £112($175),
service was £40.99($64)

Total fuel cost =£896 ($1399)

Cost per mile (excluding insurance)= £0.25 ($0.39)

Average Cost per day =£9.84 ($15.36)

This car has been used for travelling to work every day (50 mile round trip), trips to my unit (140 mile round trip), grocery shopping and town driving.

not to mention 1 track day, with a 2nd to follow

I dont think its too shabby for a 2.0 turbo with NO mods apart from 40PSI in the tyres.

It is boring to drive though

Good fuel economy, those 4 cylinder saabs are quite efficient, I`ve heard of people driving aeros and getting awesome mpgs for that performance.

Sorry, but it`s hard to imagine a Saab turbo to be boring, unless you drive on 15" wheels which don`t offer enough road feedback:>

Have you considered performance chipping it and improving underpan aerodynamics? Both improve performance and mpg.

I love Saabs, in fact I love them so much I made an office chair from a 9-5 seat and it`s very comfortable and good for my back.

The reason I say its boring to drive are manyfold.

1. The Low pressure turbo runs out of wheeze quickly.
2. the steering is DEAD- no real feedback
3. UNDERSTEEER!
4. Rear end is loose due to large Hatch
5. Too many valves, not enough cylinders

To be fair though, I have been driving BMW's for the last 7 years prior to geting this

However, its just started drinking coolant and the exhaust is blowing, so my MPG seems to be dropping

Hope to get a looka t it this weekend...

That's bad news, I hope you can get it fixed quickly (and cheaply ).

thanks

I'll either trade it in against something else (fun, but cheap and AT LEAST as economical), or weld the exhaust and chuck in some k seal to stop it using coolant.

I'll then look at getting another sh!tter once its mot runs out.

7107.6 miles and its dead..

Sold on for £60 less than I paid for it, It was eating coolant, blowing exhaust and needing tyres

Still did a respectable % above figures- just a pity it was so boring to drive..

I'd recommend the 9-3 to any ecomodder looking for a large comfortable cruiser with good MPG
