26% mileage improvement with TCC lockup switch

All I can say is WOW!

TCC lockup switch. Latest mixed tank fill netted 30.2mpg up from an average of 24. I can hardly believe it but there it is. Also got a record tank distance of 818km/508mi.

That's almost a 26% improvement. It may settle down a bit on the next tank but we will see. I doubt most people would get the same improvement because I live in a very hilly area where the slushbox was labouring up these hills at low speed, high RPM and I could never get into OD. Now I cruise the flats at 30-35 locked up in OD and do most of those hills locked up in 3rd or OD.

30mpg combined! So happy!

Wow, that is a ton of energy wasted through the torque converter.

Yeah, It's kind of hard to believe but way to large an increase to be an anomaly. My Bowen driving techniques are otherwise unchanged. I have been doing more EOC in town but that can't account for all of that increase. The needle does drop a lot slower in Bowen driving now, that's for sure.

Override switches ver opoular back in the80's with the Lockup torque converters

Eventually it faded away because it toasted the clutch in the lockup unit.

don't remember the specifics unfortunately but I do know your supposed to click the override button on a lot of new fords when towing so it does not use the OD or the Lockup.

Using the OD lockout on trucks while towing actually has nothing to do w/ the TCC... it's due to the fact that the transmission will constantly be shifting between OD and the next lowest gear, and that makes for added wear and heat, which will damage the transmission.

On most transmissions, TC lockup doesn't occur unless the selector is in the highest range, so if OD is deactivated, so is CLK.

I will re-re-reiterate once again that the ability to control the TCC will result in less wear because it won't engage/disengage every time you load the engine or when you let off the accelerator to slow down 1 or 2 seconds to give the guy ahead of you some cushion space.
