$3500 for a '97 Accord, deal or dud?

Thinking about trading in my 2000 Dodge Neon since it has been cutting off randomly and recently cut off and wouldn't turn back on for a while... Think she is dancing her last dance if you know what I mean :p haha

Anyways, went a few places and the best thing iv seen so far is a 1997 Accord with 40,000 miles LESS than my neon... So the accord has 150,000 miles on it...

It looks in good condition, good interior, good exterior, peeling paint but thats no big deal... Only bad thing is someone jig-rigged a security system in it so there is a big nest of wires taped together under the dash (but I should be able to fix all that)

-I put the SCII on the Accord and it brought up no codes
-The Accord is an auto :(

The one thing I WAS thinking though is if I dont end up liking the car I can always trade it on CL, I see people constantly with like integras that they are just wanting to trade for a civic or accord, maybe I can trade for something better eventually...

But anyways the sticker on the car was $5000 *not including tax and tag*

We worked out if I DID buy it, I would pay:
NEON+ $800 up front+ $1800 in payments = $3,600 *WITH tax and tag included*

He said since its such a small amount to pay in payments I could choose how to pay it 6/12/18/24 months

Let me know what you guys think! :)

BTW, Cars here are very expensive...
If you go on CL for my area and look up CRX they are between $4,000-$9,000...

Go on CL and go to the greenville, sc part of CL and look up cars, the only cars you can get here under 2k are ford toruses and minivans

Over here a 1997 Accord 2.0 with 150k mikes on it would be circa £600 in the small ads, or less at auction.

Can you run RHD in your state?

I recently tried to sell my wives '98 Accord Lx with 120K. The best offer was $3,000. I'm giving it to my daughter.

Hmm...that's very expensive..why don't you travel for a better offer if you don't have other options ? Also, why do you wanna buy it from a dealer ? Can't find a decent one at a private seller ? Normally dealers will hike up the price a hefty 10-25% or even more from what they negotiated for it.
Another thing I was reading about is that used cars are now more expensive due to low inventories...people don't change their cars as often as they did I suppose.

Here in Cyprus, for example it is the opposite situation. Couple of years ago you could hardly find anything decent for 1000 euros. When I got mine for less than that it was really a good find. New car prices here are much higher than in the US, think 15-20.000 for a fairly equipped small car, a Ford Focus for example would run higher than that. But now, in the recent months due to employment difficulties the prices are very low...for Cyprus. In the UK , completely different story. Being the only large country in Europe with RHD that drops the used car prices like flies out of the sky after few years. When I was there, a colleague purchased a Diesel Vectra B (was 5 1/2 years old at the time) for a measly 750 pounds..and smaller cars run even cheaper..

So, I am surprised especially since when I was living in FL, I was really blown away by what you could get for 500-1000 USD...again I'm talking private sellers NOT dealerships..
