45 mpg bmw
I didnt think it was right except for the fact that it's my brokers car, 08 323 with a 2.5 L engine, 6 speed Had it for a year and it seems to be getting amazing mileage. Even correcting for the odometer error (5%) the highway mileage comes in around 45. Why is BMW not advertising this? Or is the car broken? There is a emission related fault keeping the check engine light on
It's a monster of a car if heavy on the skinny pedal, screams for more and faster like a nympho in heat. Just as much fun to drive too. My 94 325 got close to 30 mpg but I never cared about Eco driving back then and hardly ever drove under 75 mph |
Maybe they put the "Super Secret" carburetor on yours......you have to keep the car under lock & key now or else they'll come steal it back in the middle of the night....shhhh.
|
My friend had a 335i that BMW claims gets 28-29 mpg highway. I never saw him get better than 20 mpg in mixed driving. You must have stole his mpgs.
|
my 95 525i regularly got 28-30mpg highway w a light foot. its quite possible since the 3 series is a bit lighter than a 5er.

Is this the same car that beat a Prius for MPG on the show "Top Gear"?
The test pushed the prius to it's top end while the BMW followed in loafing mode. |

Did some cows just pass by here, I'm smelling something... You need to check with 320Touring as he has a couple of BMWs and I think he would be dancing in the street with 45 (or the equivalent in Imperial MPG) even with his 318iS. Quote:
(Disclaimer, I am both a Prius owner, a TG fan, and a fan of the real performance 3-Series the 335d which had to be detuned because it would outrun the new M3...) |
I am also skeptical of the posters claim.........maybr it was in the liter mode......
|
What does this translate in U.S. Mpg? Keep in mind that the Prius is rated at around 76mpg Imperial.
|
Not sure, the 45 is not specified to be imperial or colonial gallons (sounds like Star Wars again...) - The location suggests Canada (Ontario) and I think we had a debate about the fact Canada uses Napoleonic measurements (l/100km) and Imperial gallons for MPG ?
Unless it was an EM'er with a fuel log Skeptical Hippo even doubts 45 (imp) for a 2.5L 6 cyl petrol BMW. |
ok,
so its a 323 from 2008, that makes it an e90 or 91 (estate) 2008 BMW 323i (CA) E90 Sedan/Saloon automobile specifications and car tech data co2 economy fuel consumption above is a link to the specs. Personally, I think that even with the BMW efficient dynamics (stop/go) if it was available on this model, the car would struggle to achieve your claimed mpg. Currently my best on a 4cyl 1.8 bmw using hypermiling techniques is 47 UK mpg, and that was on an extended Motorway run. that is 39.21 US MPG. My car is lighter than yours, with a smaller engine...so I dont see how your car can return these figures |
