For advice on longevity, cut springs, stock strut life, and ride quality, search EM for Frank Lee posts on lowering. It's all there- that my cut springed, stock strutted car has been going strong for about 10 years now. Yes, this is real world experience on the matter, not idle speculation.

I have cut springs on a couple of my Mustangs with no issues what-so-ever. I drag race one of em and the other is a cruiser and they ride just fine, handle just fine and look awesome...all for free. If you tryin to lower the car for FE then why not try cuttin em. If you wanna spend the cash on a lowering spring and strut setup, by all means go on ahead but if your just doin it to save a dollar, why spend one in the process?

why not just use clamps to compress coils.use 1, 2 or 3 just to see if you like it before cutting. can always remove them. i might try this when the weather warms up!!

2013 RAM 1500 1.1' drop = 1% mpg gain

For the 2013 New Car coverage issue,CAR and DRIVER had a tech tidbit in which they reported that Dodge's active air suspension delivered a 1% mpg gain with the 1.1-inch drop for highway driving.
So that's about a 2% drag reduction in old school terms.
I think Dodge published Cd 0.363 for the pickup.An industry leader.
