588 mpg BMW four seater?
 

BMW is said to develop a 0.4 l/100km (588 mpg) plugin hybrid four seater car, using carbon fiber reinforced plastic like in the i3.
It should have a Cd of 0.18, even lower than the Volkswagen XL1, and much better than the i3.
It should even be lighter than the i3, which is relatively light already at 2800 pounds.

Yup, on second thought it is not that impressive.
I get the feeling they metered out the fuel economy by assuming it takes most of its juice from the net and use the range extender for just a few % of the miles.

In that light, if a smoker buys a Tesla and uses a Zippo to light up, he might smoke for 100.000 miles on a single gallon.

But who cares about the overblown mpgs.
My office is in the same street as a BMW dealership, I see the i3s zip by at high speed. They seem like a lot of fun to drive.
If BMW can make a reasonably priced electric car that not only drives fast, but has the looks too - who knows what can happen.

And that "blended mode" fuel economy isn't including the electricity used, which is the same problem with the XL1.

Anything saying that the XL1 gets "0.9 l/100 km" is wrong, it gets 0.9 l+7.2 kWh/100 km on the NEDC cycle.

...sounds exactly like GM's early original "marketing creativity" used for VOLT.
