6 spd tranny

I have a 5 spd rsx with a k20A3 motor. The rsx type s come is with a 6 spd tranny with a k20A2 motor. Does anyone know if I could put a 6 spd from the type s in my car? The extra taller gear should help my mileage, especially on the freeway, correct? Obviously that isnt cost effect but one day my transmission will need replaced and Im wondering if this is a viable option. Thats generally how I do upgrades, when something goes bad a replace it with something better.

rsx2002, I'd imagine it would be an y easy swap if you could find one ... but have you loked at the ratios? It would not be surprised to find the final drive ratio for both 5 and 6 speeds is the same.

Honda gears its manuals fairly low. I think this is so you can use cruise control at 55mph-65mph and still pull long hills on interstates without downshifting.

I wish they wouldn't, but I'm afraid that's the case. :(

old thread....but the 6th gear ratio on the RSX-S is the same as the 5th gear ratio on the base RSX. so no, it wont really help.

You can add a 6th gear to your transmission and the TSX & 06+ Civic SI has taller 6th gears. This will drop cruising rpm, just add the 6th gear though, you don't want the whole transmission. The parts you need can be had for about $250 new. Look up adding a 6th gear to an element, same steps.
