72 mpg af standard: New Renault Twingo!
31,3 km/l or a bit more than 72 mpg is what the new Reanult Twingo 1,5 liter cDi model, just lanuched i Europe calims.
http://cdn02.fdm.dk/billeder/artikel...Twingo_for.jpg http://cdn02.fdm.dk/billeder/artikel...Twingo_bag.jpg The high milage is acheived without start/stop teck, so lots of eco-styling here. Most of the front, mini camback/ spoiler, sharp edges in the back, grill blocks ..... etc. Heres a video - in Ducth! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYeKQ0TJDVA |
Found out a bit more about this car:
- 75 hK common rail diesel - no turbo, 1.5 liters - Curb weight - 1050 kg Vortex generators on side of camback http://billeder.bilzonen.dk/Car/Pro/...12027406.jpg?3 |
Considering the numbers were accomplished on the Euro cycle, thats maybe 45-50mpg on the US test. Its good but nothing special for such a tiny diesel car.
|
Execp for the fact, that peope this time reports, thats what they agre getting from it, so for once it's not wildly overstated - the EU numbers....

And I'm surprised it's non-turbo. I thought all new commonrails were turbo:confused: Quote:

Renault Twingo MPG Reports | Fuelly I'll believe when the 2013 real world numbers start rolling in. |
It's a new engine. No start/stop, heavely areomodded or designed if you will. Can not be compared to the old versions this is the ECO2 version.
We will have to see. Rated 25 km/l in city and 31,3 at highway. Looking at pictures, so far I've found lover and upper grill blocks, lower airlip/airdam at front, new mirrors further away from the body, sharp edges at rear of car, mini camback at rear, VG on both sides of that. I've found two test with mixed driving, (one danish one german) that comfirms the city number og 25 km/l and one mixed number t 28 km/l. Pump up the tires, and do some gliding, and you are there..... On at danish board a regular daily driver who has a daily 200 km drive (100 km to and from work) confirms the 30 km/l number. |

Any word on the Cd of the new Twingo?
|
Older models semms to be listed as 0,37, cant find anything on the new model yet. But front has changed at lot, so I expect a some what lower number. I thing the 0,37 is from the first Twingo model. A guess would be around 0,3 - 0,33 ???
|
The Greenpeace ecomod (called the Smile) of the Twingo probably taught Renault a thing or two.

Wait: 75hp without a turbo???
Even the 68hp version of the 1.5dCi had a turbo as far as I knew. |
No - can't find anything on the CD, but I think it must be jost aorund .30 - in that range.
I went for at test drive today at the local dealer. It's a 1,5 liter diesel, 8 valve with a small turbo. No start / stop system. 75 hp, max tourque at 1.750 Rpm is 180 Nm. Weight is 1.055 kg. It was bad wheter today, heavy winds slurry, just around 0 degrees centigrade. Very nice small car. Very quiet, almost no wheel or tire noise. No wind noise below 90 km/h. Strong headwinds or above 90 km/h much wind noise. I didnt get a reeding for the 30 km trip I took, but I was down til 3l/100 km several times, so I would say that the 29,4 km/l mixed they claim for this model is not urealistic. Nor is the 32,3 km/l highway, if one just adds more air to tires and apply some basic hypermiling tekniques it should be easy. Griil is almost blocked from factory at the upper end. Didn't get a chance to look underneat it, but it glided pretty well. Very good pulling power from 90 km/h and up in 5. th gear, which is very long. Real overgear I'ld say. |

Yes - the reason I find this car so interesting, is that it is the first car in Europe since the VW Lupe 3L and Audi A2 that seems to be able to get constitant results under the 3,33 ltr. pr. 100 km mark with a good eco driver. And It cheap too. (for our standards) And not many peope noticed it, maby except for the Frensh - best selling car i France at the moment I belive.
But the avarage driver, which pays no attention to eco driving or hypermiling tekniques, will of coruse not be alble to get the high mpg numbers. Most likely they will get areound 4 ltr. pr. 100 km. Which is also not bad, but not oustanding compared to many of the new "minies" hitting the marked, as for instance VW Up etc. But these cars are made for midgets. The Twingo is same size as my Yaris, and I wont fint in anything smaller :) |

Well, that power and torque ratings seem to be enought even into bigger models such as the Mégane and the Fluence. I'd like to see how would a Mégane perform with this engine, altough it would probably require the start/stop feature to be more competitive against other models from its class... |

OK, one could argue that they've never seen such figures out of an AX. But I don't have the feeling to have a completely abnormal driving to achieve that. I just drive in the right lane and never brake. Maybe, it's just that the car never came into the hands of true hypermilers. |
