89 Jetta TDI build
 

So here is my main transportation that I ended up getting after my 98 Jetta TDI was totaled last year. It was rough when I picked it up last year but got it running good and been getting around 45 mpg and ran some biodiesel in it last summer/fall.

I just picked up this 82 VW Rabbit Truck that I plan on really modding for high MPG. This Jetta build will have some mods but it will be a bit slower since my attention will be on the truck.

I've got a mk3 Golf with the 1.9 TD AAZ in it- looks a lot more simple than the AHU- have you sourced the engine yet?

The AAZ benefits from easy tweaking to turbo/fuellign for more boooost!

Nice clean Jetta! And I like your idea of swapping TDi engine. I was swapping many VW engines in the past, from petrol to diesel and diesel to petrol. It's a great fun.

I like your rims, but you could benefit a higher MPG from some other rims with smaller offset. I know that BMW rims are sticking out, what is good for handling, but not for aero.

Anyway, keep us posted on the progress. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Swapping the tdi into it...i figured this would be a lot lighter then the 98 jetta. someone over on tdiclub.com did this swap but in his mk2 golf and is getting 70 mpg. Thats pretty impressive. That is my goal for this car.

As for the bottlecaps..they are temporary. I had the 13" oem steelies but I ended up hitting a small metal water cover that came out of the road one night and bent my rim.

I got these cheap :) but plan on getting a better setup for higher mpg in spring/summer.

He helped me out on all the parts I needed to do the swap...now I just need time and decent weather.

That's a nice car. Also, direct injection and a turbocharger might increase its efficiency...

ok so change of plans...since im stressing out about getting the motor out and into the truck in 4 days this coming weekend and the possibility of not having a way to work. I decided to leave it alone for now and put the MK3 TDI motor into the truck and have tons of eco mods I want to do now on the truck.

Ill still be doing some mods to this but just might take a bit longer and I will eventually get a TDI motor in it.
