91 CRX HF: 50 mpg first tank, even with a whole bunch of problems
Nothing like a kick in the teeth to get motivated
Hi all! A long time ago I got on here all full of energy and zoom, then life happened and yeah.. sorry bout that! Anyway, a week ago, my fiance's 2010 Tiguan blew the motor, no oil, no indicator light, just wham, and out of warrenty to boot.. which led me to jumping through my assets to finish the CRX. Found 80% good Michelins for a song, 44psi rated so they are at 50, oil change, spark plugs, seats installed, and off to the inspection station. BLAH, they failed me on emissions, which is likely due to half a tank of 3 year old gas, and honda-itis smoke issue, but I didn't think that far in advance. Twas worth a shot! Got temp plates and rolling her down the road for a couple weeks to clean junk out and evaluate the car in general. chassis, handling, etc. SO.. without further ado and ramblings! First tank, 50/50 mix of 3yr old vintage gas, and high test. 65-70 MPH all highway driving. **This was only 2/3 of a tank, because I feared sucking up any gunk off the bottom taking her to the limit..especially without a spare car at the moment. 321 miles, 6.41 gallons.. 50.078! There's the baseline.. icky fuel, wrong ratio transmission, smoking, 296,000 on the odometer.. and bam..over 50 out of the gate. Yes I am grinning. I think this is gonna work! Ken |
Nice baseline for a car with "issues"!
That truly sucks about the VW. Sounds spendy. (PS - moved your post into its own thread. Hope you don't mind.) |
Gives me some inspiration to get my 15.5-valve CRX DX up and running as an HF. I was originally contemplating trying to make it a sort of "CRX VX" using Z1 parts, but then I remembered I don't have the wand nor the beard for that kind of wizardry.
