91 Ranger aerocap

*Project 35mpg Camper*

It's built entirely from 2x2 and 1/4" sheeting (Home Depot was out of corrugated plastic). I have about $175.00 and about 6 hours into it.

It is hinged at the cab which allows me to let our dog up.

It needs to be sanded, painted and I have a clear acrylic sheet to add which will allow rear-view visibility.

The truck has been getting 27.56 since purchase at the beginning of July. I will be making a roughly 100 mi trip this evening and should have some numbers I'm hoping to see 30 mpg even with the wife and our 115lbs German Sheppard.

I added a few of your pics to the first post.

How did you choose the aerocap angle? I'd be a bit concerned about the transition from the cab to that angle, considering the cap sits a couple of inches below the roof height.

It might not be the most optimal aero design... but ease of construction is an obvious benefit. The "hatchback" is nice.

Looking forward to seeing your trip MPG numbers.

MPG was up 3 over my average on a short roundtrip. I too am concerned with the drop off the cab but I wanted to retain the third brake light. I have so clear acrylic that I have been thinking about using to smooth that transistion while still retaining the brake though. Basically, I wanted to get it done and start making adjustments once it was up and moving again.
