92-95 civic passenger mirror delete how to
this is a "how to" on creating a mirror delete from an old broken passenger mirror.
required: -broken passenger mirror(free from the junkyard) -tape of some sort (painters tape preferable) -small can of bondo (smallest can) -small can of fiberglass resin (smallest can) -sandpaper (80 grit, 320 grit, one page of each) -high build primer -flat black spray paint( i prefer the finish of krylon) suggested: -latex gloves -mask -eye protection -hand-sized block sander -bondo spreader first break and grind off the remains of what once held a mirror. safety first. protect your eyes and fingers. try to cut/grind it as flush as possible here. for some reason honda decided to use a porcelain material for their oem mirror bases. yours may be plastic(so much easier). http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266232845.jpg tape off the holes you created and try to make this look as close to the finished shape as possible. FLUSH http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266232846.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266232847.jpg next turn it over, mix some resin with the provided hardener and pour into the holes http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266232848.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266232850.jpg let it harden and peel off the tape. you should have something like this: http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231183.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231184.jpg now take some 80 grit sand paper and sand it down. a hand-sized block sander is helpful. everywhere you plan on applying bondo should look like this in order for it to grab the material: http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231185.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231186.jpg apply a thin layer of bondo. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...66231186-1.jpg sand down big imperfections with the 80 grit you used earlier to get the basic shape. after the big imperfections are gone use the 320 grit to get it perfect for the primer. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231187.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231189.jpg go over this again with a THIN layer of bondo if you can feel any imperfections that can't be corrected by more sanding(low spots). apply primer using thin even coats. the high build primer is used to fill in the teeth left by the sand paper. i used 2 layer of primer. you may only need to apply 1 layer depending on the quality of primer you bought. make sure to cover all of the bondo. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231191.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...66231190-1.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231190.jpg spray the final coat of paint using thin even coats. spray at somewhat of a distance to avoid drips. if you do get drips sand the entire piece with 600 grit and respray. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...66231191-1.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...1266231192.jpg viola. and mounted http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...g/102_0444.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...g/102_0446.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...g/102_0455.jpg critiques, advice and thoughts please |
Nicely done :)
|
its really not that much work. just attention to detail when you're doing it
|
Nice work there! Looks good and factory.
|
my goal with all my mods is to have a car i can still bare to look at and still be able to reap aerodynamic benefits. so basically= stock/natural looking but still aerodynamic
i want you to have to actually LOOK to be able to see the mods. |
Nice job, Kris.

k.civic, can I ask what it looks like when you start grinding away at the arm that holds the mirror? Would it be possible to reduce the profile of the arm itself while keeping the mirror attached?
|
I just managed to get hold of a broken mirror with plans to do this very same thing, so your post is very timely... thank you!
|
daqcivic: im not sure if im understanding your questions correctly. but from what i am understanding, id have to say no. the mechanism that allows the mirror to move is tightly packed in there, so i dont think youd be able to chop up the mirror without destroying it entirely.
NachtRitter: were you able to obtain a broken plastic mirror or did you get the oem one with the porcelain-like base? the plastic one wouldve been way easier to work with. you're relatively close. maybe we can meet up some time. ive never checked out a vx in person |
daqcivic: the arm and base are made out of that porcelain/cement-ish material. it's solid. the mirror housing was the only plastic on the one i worked on(O.E.M.). it only has hollow chambers on the plate piece.

excessive work for mirror delete
Kiss principle...................
remove side mirror grind or use 40 grit sand paper, fill with Bondo or short hair fiberglass, sand to doors contour, prime and paint. looks like stock.................... crexcrex |
pull side mirror, grind or use forty grit sand paper, fill with short strand fiberglass or bondo sand to doors contour, prime n paint looks stock................your method is tedious and the blank you installed is not flush and has gaps that will allow water and air to enter, plus drag prone...............
you wanted a opinion.................crexcrex |

If you don't already have a link, could you create a thread with the info? Thx! |
Passenger side installing blank
firstly a improperly sealed mirror at the base will allow water into the car, if yoiu wish to retain the blank that you made seal with silicone , black!
remove side mirror remove rubber seal rough oit the painted surface where the mirror is screwed on, 40 grit will do to ensure that bondo will take hold first use ine coat of bondo and add until even with vent frame sand smooth with 40 grit till smooth and level with the contour of the vent area Wet sand with 320 wet and dry sandpaper Prime and sand.............paint and you are done, the same proceedure can be used if you want to install a lighter more aeridynaic mirror time 45 minutes from start to finish............... Same proceedure with the drivers side any holes to swivel mirror as in the interior snap on panel can once again be rough sanded filled with bondo and sanded smooth, prime and paint................ The source is me a body man amd artist,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i have deleted both mirrors and use a cam with a seven and a half inch lcd monitor, my view is three sixty................always think out of the box what others say is impossible you can make possible.................if you are happy with what you have done then sio be it, it dosent matter what others say my best CREXCREX.........................yes there was a bird called a crexcrex |
