98 Civic LX possible VX trans swap experiences?

As the title states, I am considering picking up a VX transmission for it's super tall ratios but......

I have to wonder if this could possibly hurt my economy.

I am wondering if anyone on here has done anything similar to this and what their results were.

I have been searching for a direct answer to this for a few days and have had no luck. All I have been able to find is theories and opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Check what the automatic LX was geared for, I think that would be a fair guss what the car can handle on the highway.

I swapped my 97 HX to a VX trans before I sold it and while I gained economy, I absolutely hated driving it after that. It was so sluggish and hard to get moving. I would never do such a thing again. I wish my insight had 3.73 gears and not the 3.218 it has.

after installing a vx tranny in my minion, my mpg's went down until I "learned how to drive again". lots of truth about the fuel economy hurting, if you don't change your driving style...

If your current transmission is on the way out I would swap it otherwise you would see minimal gains

I was afraid it would pretty much ruin the driving experience of the car that is already pretty gutless.

Thanks for sharing your real world experiences with this.

I was also considering swapping in an hx trans. Exact same transmission as the LX but a slightly final taller drive.

I have an ex transmission that I have owned up and replaced the input shaft bearing on but will not use it on this car due to the worse final drive ratio.

My current transmission sounds like the input shaft bearing is also bad. I might just replace that part and keep using it.

What mpg did you end up getting after re learning shift points and stuff? Was it much of an improvement?

Very nice.

I just did a mini me swap and am fine tuning the demon 2 chip.

I am hoping to crack 40mpg after I get done tuning and actually drive easy for a few tanks.

Awesome! What top end/bottom end? N.A. or boost? Sounds like the latter:D

I'm just tearing into a d15z1now for a mini me. Gotta get a z6 head, Crower kit, blah blah blah. Nice numbers.

Thanks
Victor
