98 metro
Just joined. LOve the site and all the help. What speeds should I shift my 1.0 L metro for best gas milage?

Check the BSFC (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption) chart on this site to find the best range of speeds for your 1.0. From memory it is slightly higher than the norm, probably from 2000 to around 3000 RPM.
Welcome to the best fuel mileage site on the Internet. regards Mech |
Thanks, am looking for speeds as the car has no tach. Also, just got the car and it has a bad air intake sensor. What impact do you think that has on mileage?

Does the speedometer have marks to show you the max speed in each gear? if so then go about half the speed in each gear then shift to the next higher gear.
The bad intake air sensor could be either for air temperature or for maas air flow. Either one will affect the systems imputs for feedback and fuel volume control. I would replace the sensor if it is affordable. You have OBD 2 (on board diagnostics) so you can have the codes read if there is a CEL (check engine light). A scan gauge would give you good information, or a vacuum gauge which would be cheaper. regards Mech |
