Absolute maximum MPG with a 2nd gen Prius + aero ?
My parents might gift me their 2008 Prius ( 170k + miles )
I have been discussing the car with A.I. lately, and apparently the Prius doesn't do well with aeromods like other cars, such as the G1 Insight or Civic VX.
It looks like I would see a maximum of ONLY around 65 mpg at 65 mph with full aero taking it to .17 or below.
This is due to the fact that the hybrid system runs the engine at higher than optimal RPM at high speed to charge the battery.
I'd like some human input on the question though.
I know that the ChamPrius maxed out at around that, and he went all out on the aero.
Some sketches :
Off topic, but I wanted to add this image of the Prius.
I sectioned the car and took off several inches in height at the beltline.
This is what the Prius could have looked like if they kept the roof height the same as a '93 Civic.
Besides having better proportions, the car would have gsined over 4 mpg simply from less air resistance.

Nice, but sectioning is the most expensive full custom modification.
Dorsal fin goes away with the shark mouth?

I'm not highly educated on the older Toyota drivetrain behavior, but this went away in the newer ones. I suspect the reason for high RPM was not actually battery charge, but a gearing / electric motor RPM limitation. The final gearing is a ratio of gasoline engine and electric motors spinning together or in opposition. The Gen2's were able to get up to around 41-42mph on the electric motor only before maxing out in RPM. Gen3 raised that (I believe) to 46, Gen4 could drop into EV-only in the 70's even though it preferred not to, so there was clearly a mechanical change there.
It's worth noting that Atkinson cycle engines move their peak thermal efficiency point to a higher RPM and lower load point in their maps, though it is still ultimately a limitation due to the parasitic losses of just spinning the engine faster.

Right - no shark mouth on this one. No bare metal either.
IF the car was bare metal it would really look like a baby Cybertruck with that signature Prius roofline.
So that would be taking two of the most hated vehicles of all time and combining them into one.
In theory, the dorsal fin actually has a purpose on the Dumpster Fire by moving the center of pressure forward for less wander in crosswinds.
As you know no doubt.

Baby steps. Push your comfort zone 1% per week, and you'll be unbelievable capable in a year. We're talking spending mere seconds extra in discomfort to stretch boundaries and assume greater agency.
The gift and aero efficiency are distractions.

Mostly advice to myself, because I choose distraction over confronting stress.
For some reason your post struck me as a distraction, albeit an interesting one. It's just the thing I've been contemplating recently, and then a post like yours in some abstract way gets me thinking about it again.

Redpoint is no longer on the forum ?
That sucks. He was a really knowlegable guy.
I drove the Prius while here at my parents.
I'll be borrowing the car to come see them.
First impressions of the car is how heavy the car feels.
( Slow too. )
A short 22 mile trip into town gave 51 mpg, with an average of maybe 45 mph. So It would appear the car is giving normal mpg.
( I need to see if there is a feature that shows average speed for a trip. )
From what A.I. has said, you can shift into 'N' while driving without risking damage to the transmission, and the hybrid cuts the engine off while doing the coast without you having to mess with turning off a key.
It then seamlessly comes on as you shift back to 'D'.
Is this true ?
If so, I could really use that feature a lot since that clunky looking tiny shift knob is right next to where your hand rests on the steering wheel.
It's super quick and easy to do so, almost like it was designed with that in mind.
