Acceleration and Fuel Economy Tested
A while back (before heading up to school, actually), I did a little late night test to find out which acceleration method worked the best with my car.
What I found out was that quicker acceleration with short shifting helped a little bit FE wise over extremely slow acceleration, and was certainly more practical. Check out the full report at my site. |
What is the best way to accelerate in an automatic ?

Thanks for fixing, I didn't notice, :)

I've noticed that accelerating just a little quicker to get up to running speed helps just a smidge. Also helps in preventing the people behind me on the on-ramps from going crazy :)

It helps me quite a bit to accelerate briskly, enough to quickly get into the highest gear for the speed I am going to go. Mpg loss is pretty significant when spinning the engine faster in a lower gear. I also notice that accelerating slowly in a lower gear, and accelerating briskly in a lower gear, get very close to the same mileage, so it makes sense to get up to speed faster and out of the lower gears.
