GM already tried making a hybrid half ton pickup.
Even with $3/gal gas it only lasted 2 years.

Although it did go much longer in the Tahoe and Escalade and even found it's way into 2009 Durangos and Aspens. I think it had poor timing, a bit ahead of it's time, and it needed a bigger battery and a plug in hybrid mode. It could all electic propulsion but didn't plug in or have a very large battery considering the room and weight capacity available. I considered buying a Hybrid Aspen when I bought my gas Aspen used. They wanted about double, $19,000 vs $10,000 for Hemi I bought. I just couldn't make the gas savings swing the $9000 extra.

Yes, but they also left a lot on the table as far as efficiency.

It's the future. Early adopters are going to get some mud splashed on them, so to speak, but 20 year from now i doubt you will be able to buy a non-hybrid vehicle. Maybe even in 10 years.

Problem with the hybrid pickup was most buyers only cared about highway miles because they live in rural areas. No one was interested in a pickup that cost thousands of dollars more and got almost the same highway mileage.
Plus the fact that GM put LRR highway tires on among other cheap tricks just to match the highway MPG of the gas only trucks was even more of a turn off.

The hybrid versions of the luxury SUVs lasted longer because the buyers were more interested in having something that said "hybrid" more than they were interested in getting getting fuel milage and so buyers wouldn't feel as guilty about buying an SUV.

Looks like the Transit PHEV will be Europe only for now. I wonder when we'll get more details about the hybrid setups in the RWD vehicles.

Hybrid police vehicles could save a lot of fuel. Being pursuit-rated means there shouldn't be any excuse to have vehicles that need to be idling for hours on end.

here in finland, all emergency vehicles do not idle when not it use.

Ambulances are 24/7 with block heaters.

Most of the vehicles are driven 250K miles before auctioned out.
