Aero mods for our coupes??
 

So I've been reading a lot on the forums, and I love what I've been seeing. I'm now sporting 2 EcoModder.com stickers, too! :D One thing I've been wondering is, where is all the aero mods for coupes? I drive a 2000 Civic DX coupe, and love the idea of the Kammback, boat tails, etc. but I can't find any information on how to make a coupe more aerodynamic. So what do you guys think? What kind of mods can we coupe guys do to our rears to get better FE? Also, if you have any tips/info pertaining specifically to Civic coupes, I'd love to hear :D Thank you all very much!

I'm currently only using VG's, tuft testing showed a pretty good improvement

My idea ( ahem ) THE idea would be to pop out the back glass on the coupe and raise it up a few degrees. Fill in the gaps and extend outward and there you have it ... a coupe with a boat-tail.

What makes modding a coupe so sensible is that you don't have to fabricate any special back windshield. Also, since the roof starts its curve rather early, you dont have to extend out so far with the tail.

It's just something I threw together, so no fancy artwork ( But it just might get your brain juices flowing .)

I had to check my recycle bin.
The idea here is that when seen from behind, the 'bumper' is only as thin as the liscense plate. It looks thicker from the side because there are actually aerodynamic extentions behind the wheels to clean up the airflow. ( Rather conveniently, this also makes the car look closer to "normal' , since it lessens the 'cone' look.

If you were to see the car from behind, there would actually be two floor sections to get the ideal angle from below. (There is a biplane sort of look to it. ) There could also be channels running lengthwise like those on diffusers.

( Note the mirrors, lack of any sort of grille block, no wheel covers, and all that sort of thing ... it's just a throw away image)

Here is an idea I had last year. However, the angle on the boat-tail/kamm-back is wrong. It's flat because I chose a monster spoiler as the frame. A smaller spoiler would be better :

I have a side question: Which body type is more aerodynamic in the stock form? Hatchback or Coupe?

It depends on the car.
For example with a 5th generation Honda Civic :
According to Road&Track " Clamback or Hatchback, its lines are a crisp extention of a style easily recognizable as far back as the third generation Civic, changed mainly in its stretched roofline and a tougher, muscular impression along its flanks.The Sedan is more dramatically recast , no longer quite so blue collar utilitarian , but more a flowing design better in step with both fashion and aerdynamics . The Hatchback slips through the air with an impressive 0.31 coefficient of drag ( the VX model slightly better owing to a small underbelly fairing ) , while the Sedan posts 0.32."

Other cars usually are better in coupe form.

And in the case of the EP3 I'm not really sure. I never found an authentic cd rating and the Kammback design seems to further cloud the issue (bad pic):
