Aero mods for towing

Hiya folks!

It's been awhile since I've been on here, but I figured I would throw out an interesting topic for ya.

I drive a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4, with a 5.9L Cummins turbo diesel. Extended cab, long bed, with a fiberglass lid, curb weight approximately 8000# while traveling. I use this truck to pull travel trailers professionally across the U.S. and Canada. This means that I drive a ton of miles, basically half with a trailer, and half without. (12000 miles this month, roughly)

I've not set up my garage on this site yet, and don't have accurate fuel logs, just a running average in my head. I'm getting roughly 21 mpg empty, and 10.5 loaded.

I'm curious to see ideas for low-profile modifications. Nothing can be done to the campers, as they are not mine. I'm trying to work out a good way to lower the truck a few inches, as this would help in more ways than just with aero. Throw me any other ideas you've got!!

Bumper hitch? If so, I'd like to try something like my hinged topper. Down for running empty, and propped up to deflect air over the trailer. Kind of like the air deflectors on top of semis. The up position would need triangular fill pieces. See the photos in my album.

Something like this? ;)

The key is to filling in the gap as much as possible between the tow vehicle and the towed item. ;)
