aero resource materials:books

Hello all. We've been kicking Hucho's book around alot at ecomodder and I wanted to throw out some additional titles that members may find of interest. Many of these books were "Reference" material at libraries and could not be checked out. Some I obtained through inter-library loan, and copied with the library copy machine. This was in the days before the internet,Amazon.com,and ebay,so today members may today, may have a shot at owning these titles. Each book has it's own merits. Some will literally blow your mind! So here's some of them: (1) THE RESISTANCE OF THE AIR AND AVIATION by Gustav Alexander Eiffel, published 1910 (French),1st English translation,1912.(2) AERODYNAMIC DRAG,by Sighard F. Hoerner, published by author, printed by The Otterbein Press,Dayton,Ohio,U.S.A.,1951, (3) AERODYNAMIK DES KRAFTFAHRZEUGS by Freiherr Reinhard Koenig-Fachsenfeld, VERLAG DER MOTOR RUNDSCHAU, UMSCHAU VERLAG- FRANKFURT Am Main,Germany,1951.(4) Low-Speed Wind Tunnel Testing by Alan Pope and John J. Harper,John Wiley & Sons,Inc.,New York,Copyright 1966,ISBN 0 471 69392 8. (5) THE AUTOMOTIVE AERODYNAMIC HANDBOOK by Henry Clyde Landa,Copyright by H.C.Landa et al ,printed by and offered by The Film Instruction Company of America,2901 S.Wentworth Ave.,Milwaukee,WI 53207,U.S.A., Telephone (414) 482-0738 (as of 1987),ISBN 0-931974-14-3.If you haven't seen these, they're worth a look.

If it's ok, I'll add two:

Road Vehicle Aerodynamics, A. J. Scibor-Rylski (2nd Ed, 1984), about 250 pages. Good basic overview--can't compare it to Hucho since I'm still trying to get my hands on a copy of Hucho (oughta just buy it, I guess)....

Race Car Aerodynamics, Joseph Katz, 1995. This book, mentioned before in various postings, is mostly directed at racing and so emphasizes down force, but the basic aero stuff is useful.

Just got Hucho via inter-library loan, for free. I'll read and scan/photocopy whatever I need.

Have Hoerner in my personal library. It's the aeronautical equivalent of Hucho--both have exhibits, graphs, and cites of a whole body of work by themselves and others.

LOL: It's inter-library loans I'm waiting on!

Oh boy! Hoerner's work is amazing! And Fachsenfeld's makes me weep and lament the passing of truly amazing aero masterpieces.

As it happens, the Hucho that I got via interlibrary loan came from the library of a big truck manufacturer, whose name you know and who makes perhaps the most un-aerodynamic things ever, a sort of wheeled brickbat with appendages. Not wanting to get sued for defamation, I won't say which who.

Based on the virgin condition of the borrowed Hucho book, I may be perhaps the second person to have opened it.

Whazzat tell you?

All these guys have to do is actually read Hucho, Hoener, NACA, NASA, Dept. of Transportation, or any number of other resources commonly available for decades, and cookbook from that.

Thanks Steve! Road Vehicle Aerodynamics is a good one.I used stuff out of the 1st edition in college for the aeroVWvan project.Haven't seen the Katz book, however there's probably a lot I haven't seen now.Every book seems to offer something unique.

New books? New discoveries? Wasn't sure about your question.
