I set up my car as a new vehicle in the Garage to track its mileage since I had the lean burn ICE installed. In the 4 tanks I have entered so far, its been averaging 78mpg. This is pretty good for an 18 year old non-diesel, non-hybrid doing most of its driving on the highway at normal highway speeds and about 10mpg above its average with the previous engine. So far, I have had it up to 80mph with it remaining in lean burn. I'm still looking for a safe, long flat stretch of highway where I can try to find its maximum speed in lean burn.

What is the theoretical top speed of this car now?
|
I'll have to go find that calculator to know for sure, but the horsepower dropped from 102 to 92, so it likely lost about 5mph on the top end.

Have you changed your driving style at all to suit the new engine?

I've also personally tested that top speed limiter in my VX and can vouch that it exists. :turtle: |
The ECU in my car is the version they use on the Civic VTEC-e in Europe. Don't know what speed governing it has.
My driving style has changed a little. I do fewer short FAS, I only FAS on the longer coasts and do short ones only where I am going to have to accellerate or climb a hill too steep for lean burn. When approaching a hill, I will accellerate in lean burn so I can climb part way up the hill in lean burn before needing to apply more throttle and dropping out of lean burn. In general, I try to keep it in lean burn as much as possible. |
Meant to ask earlier - but what exactly does "lean burn" mean? (I see it mentioned a lot, but haven't seen a definition.)

With these engines running at 22:1 air/fuel their still making the same power to the wheels that other cars make at 14.7:1 air/fuel. But they are using a lot less fuel to do it. On my setup I changed the combustion chamber design to run as lean as 24:1air/fuel on a conventional engine(none lean burn engine) I'm using a after market EFI system, after market intake manifold, turbo, Suzuki pistons and Eagle rods to make this work. But my engine is still not considered a lean burn engine. It just runs leaner. But I keep referring to mine as lean burn based on the air fuel it runs at. So I guess I need to call it something else. |
