Climategate e-mails sweep America, may scuttle Barack Obama’s Cap and Trade laws – Telegraph Blogs

What's to discuss? You've got some climate scientists discussing how to deal with a bunch of crackpots who persist in annoying them, and the crackpots are upset about it. For comparision, why not ask NASA to release emails from its researchers and/or astronauts, commenting on how they deal with Flat Earthers, or people who claim the Apollo landings were faked?

It seems like the most "scandalous" portion is just being taken out of context.

Lets say I try to model vehicle acceleration, and I have a component when power transfer is consistent, and when it's erratic due to slippage (clutch, tires, etc). Now, I can record the intervals for the whole acceleration event, and based on that I realize that my model for normal acceleration is pretty good, but that my model for the portion when the clutch and tires are slipping sucks, it doesn't match what's actually happening. So I go get actual data on the period where the wheels/clutch are slipping and use that instead of my crappy model that isn't accurate. Does that mean that I'm falsifying data to cover something up? Hell naw. The model I created had a crappy portion , so I just replaced that part w/ real data, getting a more realistic model than what I originally had. Ideally, I'd love to have something the could explain the whole event, but if a portion of my model sucks it's much better to replace it w/ concrete data, even if it's kludgy, instead of using a flawed model.

In terms of the funding, I've had college faculty say that they altered the abstract for their research so that it would appeal more to homeland security and get some of that dough. It's common practice in research to create a proposal that has more appeal so it's more likely to get funded, just like it's common to shape a resume so that it appeals to a specific employer instead of just using the same one over and over.

I'm curious if this "release" gives anyone pause the think there might be something fishy going on. I've made no attempt to hide my belief that Global Warming is a crisis generated for population control and revenue generation. And I believe that there is not much more man can do to change the warming/cooling cycles than he can to alter the light output of the sun.

I DO believe we have created a pollution problem that has had a great deal of success with cleanup. We have more to do for certain. But there are certainly bigger problems with society at large. I personally enjoy offroad driving and outdoor activites. I like to share the public lands I so enjoy. I help with public and club cleanups, and even pickup others trash when trailriding with my friends. Yet, because I enjoy my Jeep, and use it for what it is, I am lambasted by those that have no other association than "save it for the children"...

I've said before, its MAN'S arrogance that makes us feel that we have caused so much damage to the climate. Believe me, this rock we call home will spit us off it long before we could possibly "kill it"... I've asked before, WHO gets to set the thermostat?

Bring on the ice age, I'm ready...

First of all, someone else already started a thread with this topic: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...nge-11146.html

Second, you know what? DON'T discuss.

It's not what EcoModder is for.

It's fantastic that people feel passionate about bigger issues, but these threads generally do nothing but polarize the membership.

There are plenty of forums out there that deal with this topic exclusively and would be happy to have more participants.

My apologies. Didn't see the other thread...
