Aiming for 300 mpg on 50cc :)
Hello everyone,
I have a bit of free time coming up and am going on a 3 day ride and figured it would be a fun time to try some hypermiling on two wheels. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...syylvdkw0.jpeg The scooter is a 49cc Honda Scooter, called the Giorcub and has a 4 speed manual transmission with chain drive in the back, kind of strange for a scooter. It makes just 3.75 horsepower and tops out at 62 kph (40 mph). It also takes 28 seconds to get there. Current average is about 160 mpg US with a lot of start stop and 5-6k rpm shifts. I'm thinking I can do better, hoping to top 300 and still have a streetable scooter. I'll be posting progress and modifications up until the day of the ride comes. :D -Honda100 |
A gearing change might help. Aero mods might not do much at 50 kmh but you could add a windscreen and narrower bars and crouch forward with your elbows on your knees for comfort. Get a wideband O2 logging sensor or do a dyno session to make sure the carb is tuned well.
