Air dam Attachment
Hey Guys
I have a Pontiac Vibe and am in the process of designing an air dam for the car.I am aiming on attaching the air dam to the lip of the bumper.I have seen some of the examples on this site and persons have attached it via screws. I am not keen on creating holes in the bumper, can you guys suggest any other attachment options? Thanks in advance Meidou |
Factory airdams can be mounted with two sided tape. Typically they fit very tight, and wrap around another surface.

The air dam would also have to be relatively solid/sturdy I would think to ise the two way tape.
Btw, welcome to the forum. I am from a small town just west of Waterloo, and I am always back and forth to Mississauga, maybe I will see you around or on the 401 sometime. |
If it's rigid and light enough you might be able to zip tie it on. You might want to back it with aluminum bar for rigidity. I zip tied and duct taped my coroplast lip on.

Thanks for the replies.I wanted to make the air dam using lawn edging.
The suggestion of using an aluminium bar to add rigidity is great,I will try to incorporate it into my design. I was initally pondering using the 3M 2 way tape, do you guys (and girls) think this will offer the support needed, or would I have to supplement it with some screws. |
the 3M tape is fairly strong but i would suggest using some screws to be on the safe side

3M tape wont hold for very long all by its self.

I've had my wheel covers attached for months with 3M tape and have had no problems even upto 150kph. But yea it does depend on the application, in this case it wouldnt hold with the tape alone

Mine has been on for over 2 years now and I live where we get a lot of snow. I have pushed snow and hit snowbanks with it, and it is still in great shape. I used 1/2" long sheet metal screws every 6 inches or so. Pics :

If there is some sort of plastic that extends down a little, OR screwing into an already installed air dam. then that would be perfect!
Doubled/down on my aridam with Garden stripping like everyone else. the stock height was just still a little high i thought, just screwed on. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...81529347_n.jpg |
