That Akward Moment When....

That akward moment when....

You run across someone else fueling up their diesel car. No one drives diesel cars around here. Fueled up the Tempo today and ran across a couple driving a Volkswagon TDI Station wagon from Maryland here in Indiana. We talked about were they were from, MPG, each others cars, diesels, etc. Pretty cool running across someone else with the same eco interests.

Is Diesel that rare in IN ?

Over here its weird to see people tank LPG, and absolutely alien to see someone tank CNG.

I refueled today, and I'd be surprised if more than 1 of the 5 people at the pumps were pumping petrol. This is diesel territory ;)

VW TDI's are pretty common around here, but that is the only car that is. I think VW is the only car maker that still markets a diesel car here. I'm not sure why that is. They seem to think there is no market for them I guess, but diesel pickups are everywhere. they are very popular.

Here in the Midwest USA diesel cars are pretty few and far between. Diesel trucks are pretty common, but cars no. Everyone runs petrol. Go by a gas station when it's busy and everyone will be at the gas pumps. Only ones at the diesel pumps will be trucks, school buses and commercial vehicles. It was odd to talk with someone around here about MPG, fuel economy and the cars.

This explains why japanese car companys always put crappy petrol engines into their hybrids, completely wasting a 20% efficiency boost you could get with a diesel hybrid. Damn US market :D

Unfortunately, the european manufacturers and the US ones are following in the same beaten track.

*sigh*

so long,
