Alibaba

Has anyone order merchandise items from the Chinese web site Alibaba? If so how was your experience?
Thanks

freebeard 10-05-2019 11:49 PM

[crickets]?

No. I don't do commerce on Internet. I just feel badly that you've had no response. :(

Fat Charlie 10-06-2019 08:22 AM

It's like eBay. Where everything's translated from another language that's so different you don't know just exactly what you're going to get.

Daox 10-06-2019 09:31 AM

I've purchased stuff from alibaba as well as aliexpress. Its fine as long as you make sure you know what you're getting and clearly define things.

redpoint5 10-06-2019 11:35 AM

Alibaba isn't a store; it's a marketplace. I've purchased from Alibaba, but that won't help you know anything about a particular merchant.

Stubby79 10-06-2019 11:45 PM

AliExpress...better results than with ordering from China on Ebay, since the money is held in escrow. About one in four such ebay items never show up for me. On the other hand, more research/digging around is required to find what you want or to get the right price on AliExpress.

TexasCotton 10-07-2019 12:28 AM

Alibaba

Thanks everyone

No I was just checking the site . When you are in Alibaba there is a section called "Ready to Ship" that looks like you could possible place a order.

My preferences of ship point would be Hong Kong and Shenzen …..

Aliexpress has pop up windows which are annoying

Xist 10-11-2019 01:34 AM

What about Wish? I have seen many videos of people ordering from these places and they often receive a cheap imitation of the item in the picture.

Fat Charlie 10-11-2019 01:58 PM

I thought my fifth grader watching videos of people playing video games was crazy.

freebeard 10-11-2019 02:43 PM

I think the NBA is crazy.

Fat Charlie 10-11-2019 03:34 PM

The NBA is to basketball what MTV is to music.

Yes we all wish!

China is the epicenter of knockoffs , fake Apple Stores, and cardboard soaked in pork drippings sold as food. Picture Image

redpoint5 10-13-2019 12:41 AM

China makes everything. That means they make official iPhones and the knock offs. The fact that something is made in China says nothing about the quality.

Fat Charlie 10-13-2019 08:19 AM

... It just says that the product is exactly what the factory was told to produce. You want the highest quality phone on the planet? Done. You want something that looks just like it but only costs you a buck? They can do that too.

Xist 10-13-2019 01:11 PM

Isn't Snap-On made in China nowadays?

https://i.imgur.com/lEivl85.jpg

Apparently the bike was made in China, but to German standards.

TexasCotton 10-13-2019 08:44 PM

Harbor Freight aka HF

Harbor Freight is made to China knockoff standard

TexasCotton 10-13-2019 09:11 PM

EV Smart Knockoffs

You can find a lot of China made Smart EV on Alibaba . The knockoffs vary and hard to tell what you may or may not being getting yourself into and that is if they can make it past customs

All predicted by Ernest Callenbach in 1975 in his book Ecotopia.

Specifically, repair parts for Chinese tractors. I don't have a copy to hand (met the guy once) but there's this:

Prior to Weston's reporting, most Americans had been barred from entering the new country, which is depicted as being on continual guard against revanchism. The new nation of Ecotopia consists of Northern California, Oregon, and Washington; it is hinted that Southern California is a lost cause.

Revanchism: A policy of seeking to retaliate, especially to recover lost territory.

TexasCotton 10-15-2019 10:14 PM

Thought that was Cali, Utah and random communities in the
Western and states

One restaurant (at least?) had one of its cooks dipping & using a sewer dredge to obtain its "cooking oil". All, on the up & up, & extra taste sensations in communist china (always small letters).

For decades, conservatives have been trying to make a separate state, consisting of Eastern Washington & eastern Oregon. As different as conservatives say eastern WA & e. OR are from western WA & w. OR, eastern OR is different for e. WA.

Shenanigans.

Jefferson (proposed Pacific state)

I had an uncle that lived in Port Orford and worked in a coop plywood mill.

This video by Black Pigeon Speaks (He's a Canadian ex-pat) says that Alberta (just to their north) has similar inclination, as they are bankrolling Eastern Canada but get no respect.

Of course Quebecois want out too.

Fat Charlie 11-05-2019 06:01 AM

These regions that resent bankrolling the rest of the country look like guys who won "big" with a scratch-off ticket and then want to ditch the ol' ball and chain.

Reminds me of Colbert's explanatory map of one of the worse California split proposals. "Billionaires' Enclave" was right next to "Really West Virginia". Because you don't want your town to have to fund that town's schools, you know?

putin's russian internet trolling is giving much play to all these separatist movements. We're seeing putin & putin's boy "don'T rump", increase totalitarian dictators influence in the world...just using the freebee internet.

redpoint5 11-05-2019 12:15 PM

Government is supposed to be as local as possible, to be responsive to the needs and will of those localities. If a minority of people don't like how things are run, they can either convince the rest of the population to make a change, or move. If an overwhelming majority of a region wants to be governed differently, they should. That could involve something as extreme as creating a unique state.

Has it occurred to you yet that free and open source software has consumed the world and made your globalist/nationalist politics irrelevant?*

Richard Stallman did nothing wrong.

The urban/rural divide goes 'way back. Probably as old as cities. The Romans had a word for 'hillbilly'.

North American populations are heavily weighted toward the East coast. More locally states/cities like Oregon/Portland or New York/NYC manifest the same divisions.
