Alternate Front End Gap filler
So I added this to another thread, but I am re-posting here, anew.
I have an aftermarket headlights and aftermarket front bumper (from an accident 2 years back), so the seams aren't exactly "tight". So while at Menards I saw something that may work, flex PVC. Seen below. The size purchased will depend on the gaps that are being filled, but I picked up 1/2" OD, cost ~$2.00 for 10'. http://www.davewigstone.com/uploads/IMG_0037-1000.jpg And here's the gap to be filled, upper left of the headlight. http://www.davewigstone.com/uploads/IMG_0027-1000.jpg Now the nice thing about this PVC, is that is it is quite mailable and can be manipulated to fit the gap. I squeezed it then pushed it in (the warmer it is the better), filling the gap. Then it expands for a tight fit. http://www.davewigstone.com/uploads/IMG_0030-1000.jpg Nice, clean and cheap! Now if your car isn't black like mine and you are worried about the color, pick up the clear type, you won't see it as much. Word of caution: These may fall out in the "auto" carwash, or at high speeds, depending how tight the fit is. Also as mentioned above it gets soft with heat, so be aware of that as well. -Dave |
I'm sure that you could coil it up into an envelope and mail it, but I think you meant to say that it's "malleable". ;)
Hey, that looks pretty good. Even with a different body color, the black may not look too bad, since it's at a visual break point between the fender and the headlight. |

So the big question is, will this little tube save you $2 in gas?

Sven,
I have no idea. I was used about half of it trying to find the best way to fit it, initially I cut a slice down the middle, which worked but slide right off. But I was able to seal up the majority of large gaps. I am working to increase my Cd as I have hit my limit at about 49mpg on the highway +/-. So I am hoping this among other changes will help. Slowly but surely :) -Dave |
That looks like something that Honda would do, looks nice and OEM style!
Ever consider Seal 'n Peel?: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pro...d78194_300.jpg From Home Depot :Seal 'n Peel you could actually use it to seal up the edges of the quarter panels to the doors, edges of the hood to fender, and trunk edges and such, let it cure and then peel up only one side so the doors and hood could still open but he weatherstripping would stay to be able to fill the gap still. |
Very interesting. I'll have to check it out
