Can you guys make it to where when someone quotes something that is a 4 page long post it doesn't simply re show the whole message, and just summarizes it or cuts it? Hell, it might save on bandwidth costs.

Not a big deal, just one of those things that I grind my teeth about.

On a related note I'll mention again about poster-sized images but even worse is when the damn things get quoted x number of times more.

It's when there is a huge post and someone quotes it and says "That's cool!" where I just giggle and think "Efficiency Forum"

If we made an automatic quote-trimming feature, someone would surely complain (rightly so) that they can't quote the part of the message that they want to. (People like me: I regularly cherry-pick parts of long quotes.)

How about an auto shrink feature if it's more than a page long then?

I'll see if there's a plug-in for that. But I'm still inclined to say: hound them!

I can't understand why some users quote a certain post, when their reply would be just as good without it:confused:

This forum's software is already at least one step forward, since any quotes in the original, cited post are omitted when replying. Imagine someone replying "+1" not just to one post, but to all of the previous posts, quoted one inside the next recursively:eek:

Found a plug-in that gives users the ability to "collapse" quotes, but it's buggy, no longer supported, and it doesn't save bandwidth.

Now you can cut away any text that you don't want to appear. In this case all we want to do is remind people that Brucey said "I like animals".

So, you delete all text after the first right bracket "]". This should leave you with something which looks like this.

QUOTE=brucey;302569]I like animals[/QUOTE

except there will be brackets on the outside of that line.

I still don't know how to get the quote to say, "Originally posted by brucey," without doing it manually.

Click on the "QUOTE" button at the bottom left of the post you want to quote. This gives you "Originally Posted by JethroBodine", plus a http://ecomodder.com/forum/images/em...s/viewpost.gif icon, which takes you to the original post if clicked. The actual coding is such that you have "=JethroBodine" inside the opening QUOTE bracket, then the number (in the forum's database) of the post:
(Delete the whitespace between the [ and QUOTE.)

If you omit the forum's post number, then you only get a "Originally Posted by JethroBodine" header:
