Another Fisker catches fire

Yet another Fisker Karma has a lithium ion battery fire while parked (pop up warning)

Nice looking car, just have some marshmallows, gram crackers, and hershey bars handy if your thinking of buying one.

There are other better articles about this. I'll try and grab one.

Anyways, the fire was not related to the battery this time (the first one was).

edit:

Here we are...

fisker fire cause not exhaust battery or electric drive company says

Quote:

In fact, Fisker said, the fire's origin appears to its investigators to have been outside the engine compartment altogether, forward of the left front tire.

...

Evidence revealed thus far supports the fact that the ignition source was not the Lithium-ion battery pack, new technology components or unique exhaust routing.

Well of course Fisker is going to say it wasn't the battery. They said that the last time and accused the car owner of arson.

Edit: from looking at some of the photos I will concede it wasn't the battery this time. However I will say their exhaust system would still be a candidate.

When an OEM does something like use "unique exhaust routing" its usually translates to them being lazy.

niky 08-17-2012 05:08 AM

Or there not being enough space in an already crowded chassis for the exhaust.

What's for lunch--fried, fricasseed, Fisker?

Or cheap.

Are you implying that there is Fisker Karma out there that hasn't caught fire yet? I call BS.

Another recall for Fisker. I swear they have the worst luck of any OEM in recent history. This time it was a failed cooling fan that lit up the car.

Quote:

The company’s engineers, working with an independent fire expert, determined that a cooling fan had an internal fault that caused it to fail, overheat and start a slow-burning fire.

So everyone is making a big deal about Fisker recalling what, 300 cars to fix fan but no one is paying attention to GM recalling 250,000 SUV's that have doors that catch fire? huh... Gasoline cars catch fire all of the time, vehicles that have electric drives didn't invent the car fire and if these cars were 100% free of issues someone would be screaming that there was a cover up because no auto maker is free from recalls or problems with their vehicles, Jeep had an issue 15 years back where their Jeeps were catching on fire if you hit a curb or their air bag would blow up in your face if you turned the key off with the steering wheel turned full lock and people still buy those vehicles!
It's fun to read the used car buyers guide books to see all of the recalls that vehicles have had over the years including many expensive vehicles that catch fire for no apparent reason.
