Any hams on here?
Ham radio operators of course. I've always been fascinated by ham radio I studied to get my license a few years ago but there wasn't any places to take the official test that I could find. Today though I found out that a family friend is a ham and I got to sit in on a field day. There was solar activity so we could bounce rf waves off the atmosphere to reach almost anywhere in the world!! My friend was running off of 5 watts on a solar panel to test his emergency equipment and we could reach everywhere from California to Texas to Florida and New England parts of Canada and even a few ships out in the ocean!!!!
It was a ton of fun! He's going to find a testing location so I should be getting my license soon! |
I entertained the idea since the no code class came out, but never went any further than reading the book from radio shack.
The no morse code class is the license I'll be getting. I'm working on learning it slowly and I'll try to move up to the next class quickly so I can get the extra bands.
Whats to learn? Isnt just some basic electrical questions and some call signs?
No morse code. I've already been passing the practice tests for a while I'm just trying to learn morse code because you need to know it to get certain licenses.
Who needs a license. My grandfather has one and doesn't have a license. Well he doesn't anymore since the house burnt down but he did! And would probably be still using it today if it hadn't got destroyed.
I'd rather pay the $10 bucks to get tested and licensed than get fined by the FCC.
The idea intrigues me but I know nothing about it. I did, however, have lots of fun on a CB.
Hmm, I should get another CB... |
I'm a HAM and a CB'er
I have more fun on CB... and hardly ever get active on Ham.. I mostly run SSB mode on CB.. |
