anyone considering getting....

A diesel chevy cruze when they come out in the states in 2013? I think this is what I'm going to replace my diesel Chevette's with! They are already talking well into the 50mpg range with the 6spd manual.

The euro-Cruze 2.0L diesel only gets 42 mpg on the official NEDC - so it'll be a lot less using the EPA testing.

It's seen as rather disappointing over here.
Over at BMW, you can get the same 163 HP @ 57 mpg (NEDC) in a bigger car.

The US version with the 6spd manual tranny will be north of 50 MPG is the word on the street. The US eco gas version is already in the low to mid 40's

You'll be disappointed if you expect 50mpg.

The weird thing is, the Opel Insignia has a far better tuned 2.0L diesel than what's in the Cruze despite also being GM.

I tested a Cruze Diesel last year as the local stealer in Edinburgh was having a "sale", ie. offloading pre-registered showroom models. It was ok, gearchange a little rubbery and a flat throttle response but once the turbo started blowing it went quite well. The interior was not great quality compared to the competition, Chevrolet (Daewoo really) always seems to be a let down here.

If you are in the market for a lower cost new TDI alternative then you could buy worse cars. However if Ford brought in the Focus TDCi or GM brought some of the European CDTi models then I wouldn't give it a second look though unless it was significantly cheaper.
