Unless you have bad plugs to begin with improvements by sparkplugs are minute at the very best. Do you want to fall for the same scam twice?
|
No i dont really want to fall for the scam twice i guess those iridium's are the best thing right

About the best are platinum plugs because they last longer. However they are only really worth it if it is very very hard to change your plugs. It would probably be more economical in both parts cost and fuel economy to change out cheaper plugs more often.
Note, it is vital to have your plugs gaped to spec for your car for proper performance. |
Okay after some further research the iridium plugs are slightly better because they last about 20% longer than the platinum ones.

You will be best served in simply getting a single pole platinum or iridium plug and making sure the gap is set correctly. Dont forget to inspect the plug wires to make sure no grounding out has happened and no cracks in the insulation.

I've been using platinum's for several years now, usually Bosch and have had several sets last over 100K miles without any drop in FE. There has even been times they had so many miles on them I would just go ahead and put new ones in even though the old ones were still firing fine. I recently put new plugs in my '88 Escort and I think the old ones had about 150K miles on them. If you'll look at my gas log you'll see where I got over 48 mpg a few times on the old plugs. The only reason I replaced them when I did is because the insulator on one of them cracked and it was jumping fire. $25 is a little bit high for a spark plug when you can buy a good platinum plug for about $2.-$3 each. Even if they were better plugs I don't see ever making up the difference in fuel savings when you figure $100. vs. $12. for a 4 cylinder engine.
