If you drive a sporty car at moderate speeds at low RPM in top gear you can get decent fuel economy! Who'd a thunk it? (Or maybe they pulse & glided the **** out of it. Who knows?) 2015 Subaru BRZ offers huge surprise in mpg marathon - Torque News Quote:
The drivers squeezed out 55.42 mpg (Imp) = 46.1 mpg US = 5.1 L/100 km. Good enough for 2nd place overall in the "% over official rating" category: Quote:

Curses on the EPA. Curses I say...
|
Having his cake and eating it too!
I should enter my WRX STI in one of these things. i'm already achieving 52.5% real-world improvement over EPA estimates. Cruising at Moderate speed, top gear, low rpm in the STI...my scangauge II shows ~40-45mpg which is 71% improvement over EPA |
lol 45 is not even good. That's the cruise mpg in 6th gear at 55mph.

45 mpg vs. 27 mpg average in the "real world" (842 owners)
Let's put this BRZ's 45 mpg US results in context:
- 437 FRS owners are averaging ~27 mpg US, says Fuelly. - 405 BRZ owners are averaging about the same (slightly higher). |
Crash and burn, another potential new car crossed off my list. In that case I just as well get an older Scion TC thats been boosted and riced out.

The BRZ was the car that crossed my mind when I was looking for a car, but as it's not sold here, I went for the new Fiesta ST.

The FA20's 12.5 compression ratio and D4-S injection really help. I think most people on this website would be able to pull off 40mpg tanks or at least 35 with a lot of city driving in that car. |

AC off, restricted to 50 mph or less, I don't doubt it's possible. |
When I drove a friend's FR-S, I was surprised by its mileage, 37 mpg(car computer) in a mostly city route. I was also surprised by the rather large gap between 1st and 2nd gear in a 6 speed.
